This ability to turn off the screen when playing music is very useful when using applications like TuneIn. Even when playing music from youtube, many times you want just to listen, not to watch. Also, for many youtube music videos, picture is static.
I saw that this functionality was available for Samsung TV models until recently. For example: Turning off the picture but not the sound (2013-2015 TVs).
From some reason, this is impossible in my brand new UE55MU9000. If this is true, I believe that Samsung can provide such functionality in one of the next software updates.
Please...

I hate my 75" Samsung because it doesn't have display off feature.

A Samsung is NOT listening to customers needs, I figured out a solution that is giving me, finally, a total black (like an off screen) when listening to music over my Apple TV 4K. What I did is pretty simple: selected Pictures as the screen saver (instead of Aereo or other fancy options). Created a pictures folder with only one picture, which happens to be a total back image. The screen saver displays only that image and voila! I finally have the screen off, or almost off, which only illuminates for a couple of seconds to display song/artist name each time a new song starts, which is fine with me. Hope others find this tip useful.
Glad that it worked but this is not as solution to a problem that should exist in the first place.

I was stunned by the fact that q90r didn't have "turn screen off". My two old Samsung P.O.S. 6-series have this. I cannot for the world begin to understand Samsungs (so called) Development Team sometimes.

You can in fact overcome this by using either an external speakers or a home theater and close the TV getting the sound from you TV box or cable receiver but from TV unfortunately you cannot do that in the newer models, Shame on Samsung
You can also overcome this by buying a new TV from another manufacter...
None of these "fixes"/workarounds are valid. Why would you have your TV play sound if you had a home theater that would play it in the first place...

I bought the FN8 2018. Same problem. Note: the audio player (playing mp3 by dnla ) has the icon to turn off the video. The ideal is integrate this option on ambient mode !
To bad this isn't the situation when playing from Spotify.

I'm happy for you! But this will not work playing from Spotify app.
