Hello everyone, i just bought a 5.1 surround sound system, and connected it to my tv with an Optical Cable but the TV outputs only stereo sound. What can i do? I already set the TV to output to "external speakers" and set the digital audio to "PCM" but still i can't get 5.1 surround.
(FYI the surround system is a Sony HT-S20R

Ok so, my TV is the UE40J5000AK which has only 2 HDMI ports. One is unlabeled and the other is STB, so no ARC audio.
My 5.1 system is a Sony HT-S20R, which has Optical and HDMI ARC output.
How should i do my connection to have true 5.1 and not a stereo mixed between the speakers?

Let me check both manuals. To give you the correct settings.
Any set-top box for TV?
For now let's focus on PS5 + TV + Receiver.
No need to have ARC.
I'll get back as soon as possible, if no-one else joins the thread.
Cheers

By the way, I'm just a fellow member of the community with no attachments to Samsung! 😁

Hi,
could you please post screenshots of the audio menu on the TV so I may check the available options?
I'm looking in the manual but lacks those needed parts...

What is the firmware version of the TV?
You may see there's an update available.

Hello, these are all my audio options available. Dolby and DTS are grayed out unfortunately

Ok.
with this soundbar (sorry I was focused on you using a receiver), you can only use Optical for 5.1 and Dolby D.
I'm checking the rest....

Let me check my TV audio settings as they are similar, although a newer model.

Ok.
Dolby Digital is only showing up available on HDMI 2, in my case.
I have a set-top box on HDM1 and it happens like in your case.
So...

One more thing...
follow these instructions on IGN for PS5
How to Enable Surround Sound - PlayStation 5 Wiki Guide - IGN
This is an excerpt with important info:
"If your PS5 is connected to your TV, with your TV sending audio to the speakers over Optical or HDMI ARC, you may need to select Dolby or DTS here in order for surround to work, since other connections may not have the bandwidth for uncompressed LPCM in more than two channels."
