TV won't record programs anymore

Hi, my TV that I have had for a few years and has recorded programs successfully to a Sam sung external hard drive all of a sudden one day decided that it won't record anything anymore. 

The hard drive is fine and isn't damaged in any way and has plenty of space on it for recordings but for some unknown reason the TV has decided it can't record anything anymore ? Any ideas ?

The TV in question is a Samsung UE48JS8500TXXU. I'm at a loss here anyone got any experience with this issue ?

I've not experienced this problem as I do not own the TV model you are having issues with but it could be a software related problem I would suggest using a SSD instead of a HDD as SSD's are more reliable and harder to damage
