TV scheduled viewing and recording not working

Hello,

Our scheduled viewing and scheduled recording function on our TV has recently stopped working. You can select these functions and they will show in the scheduler however no notifications are received or recordings started. If you go to the guide or scheduler after the start time of the selected programme the viewing or recording indicator has disappeared.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or able to suggest anything that may help us fix this?

Thank you.

Unfortunately my TV today stopped recording, it took me 5 minutes to repair it, now is working again, I decided to open new topic but here you can read it. Best. Darek

Hi all I want to open new topic as I am sure what to do to have it working.

My TV is UE49MU6400 but I am sure that is going to work with other as this is little tricky and making TV crazy for moment.

So if your Samsung TV not doing schedule recording but doing normal recording and time shifting then:

Put your TV in terrestrial mode

Go to Settings

Go to Broadcasting option

Go to Auto Tuning Settings

Start

Now funny stuff

My TV have on bottom something like " Channel initialisation" option _ this is our problem...

When you choose your options and press Tuning ok, tuning will progress, when reach 20% turn TV off, remove plug from wall, put it back, turn TV on, go to tuning options and...

Third option "Channel initialisation" should be no more visible... If you still have then repeat above until it is gone

Then go further, tune OK.

Tada....

Your schedule recording is working again...

Don't ask me why..

I'll be very happy if this worked for you let me know.

And now, our Big brother Samsung, can you explain us what is a problem and why you cannot do something to change it?

Best to all

Darek

Hi all.

Figured that I'd do some mythbusting as regards the DRM stuff here. Seeing as I'm not an AV expert, I asked the Three Wise Peeps (i.e. our UK Head AV Engineers and AV Product Specialist) for some help with that.

This is how DRM plays out in regards to Samsung TV's:

UK TV Broadcasts are DRM protected; but all Samsung TV’s with the ability to record to USB HDD will encrypt the content and only allow playback of the recorded content on the device that made the recording.  So, you can’t record to a USB HDD then attach it to another TV or PC and playback the recordings, for example.

In case anyone's in any doubt, though, from a User Manual of one the Samsung TV's able to record to a USB HDD:

Before Using the Recording and Timeshift Functions.JPG

...

Regarding the thread's main topic of having issues with scheduled recording, this is the statement I've been given:

“We are aware of a small number of customers facing difficulties when making scheduled recordings, especially when using “Series Link”.  We are investigating these complaints and will resolve them with a future software update.  We do not currently have a timeline for the release."

Thanks for clearing that up,  and thanks for acknowledging that this is a known fault with the Samsung TV's.  I was told 18 months back by the UK CEO's office it was a known issue. It is a pity that your support did not pass this on when people contacted them,  instead had them doing resets and blaming copyright,  the USB drives. I do think as this is an advertised feature people should be told of this issue before purchase,  as I believe this could constitute misrepresentation,  and we know all about that in the ks owners refund thread.

So to all you owners who have this issue you can now ask for a full refund as Samsung now admit it is a known fault without any indication when it will be fixed. And it was known about when you purchased your tv,  therefore you can argue misrepresentation which you can claim a full refund up to 6 years after purchase. I have dealt a lot with this with the misrepresentation of the KS series over the smart things dongle which was promised but Samsung pulled it. People are getting full refunds even when their TV's are over a year old.

There is lots of info and help in the ks owners refund,  and refund more info thread.

PM me for more info.

So whay don't you ask those tree vise "peeps" about my solution to problem?
Why "channel optimalisation" option dissappear after turning TV off? And then my TV start recording every program from freeview without any bool***** about rights? I don't move my USB hdd to other TV or computer as I just want to record something interesting and watch it in free time on my TV without seating 15 minutes every 20 minutes and watch adverts....
BTW I love my TV and don't want to change for other that's whay don't need money back only.
BTW Can I have email address to your guru's as I really want to know what they think about my solution.

Its good that you have a solution but very odd how their customers who reported this issue were told all sorts of lies,  copyright, wrong type HDD,  even the Freeview transponders,  but never a Samsung problem,  until today when Samsung via their moderator admitted that they know about this issue and they can not give any indication when it may be fixed. I was told 18 months ago by the UK CEO's office, and it is only today when they actually came clean to everyone.

If it worked at first which on mine it did and then just stops working,  you should not have to jump through hoops to get it to work on what are premium TV's.

It has been a known fault since they started selling,  therefore under the 2015 European Consumer law you now met the criteria to ask for a refund.  That is the fault was there when you purchased the tv,  and there is no fix to the issue,  in so much as Samsung can  not give any timeline for a fix.

For those not happy then inform your retailers and ask for a refund due to a faulty tv,  I. E.  It donot do as advertised.

I had a couple of problems trying to record programmes to a hard drive with my Samsung QE65Q7C.

Firstly the “Too Many Reservations” error kept coming up. So I deleted all scheduled recordings to see if this would fix the problem.  It didn’t.  So I did a factory reset and this solved the problem.  I note that the TV can only schedule up to 30 recordings or viewings at once – so setting it to record 2 or 3 full series can take it over the limit. Once you go over the limit I think this messes up the TV.  So need to watch for that problem in the future.

Having eliminated the “Too Many Reservations” error, I now found that the TV would not record any scheduled recordings at all.  I did manage to fix this however thanks to someone’s suggestion on this forum somewhere.  I re-tuned the TV manually – not automatically (under broadcasting , then expert settings).    There are 7 or 8 blocks of channels and you “accept” each block that is shown in turn.  It only took a few minutes.

Scheduled recording is now working (so far….and keeping fingers crossed)

Hope this helps some of you with this problem

Many thanks. Manual retuning seems to have fixed schedule manager for me.

New TV owner here and guess what.....does not record at all.

Going to try the various fixes but will be contacting John Lewiss tomorrow to get them involved and get a new TV from them.  Probably not a Samsung at this rate if they all have the same problems.

Why do Samsung not own up about the problems?

try manual tuning, or, my way, just stop automatic by turning tv of, and back on

I agree... go into 'manual tuning' under expert settings and retune on each frequency in turn to get all the channels.

The menu may be different on different models so just find manual tuning.

I can confirm my scheduling of programmes has been ok since doing this. Recording comes under the same schedule manager so assume, not actually recording myself, this will resolve for recording too.  This assumes that recording to an externally connected device is proven.

Tweeted to Samsung TV on Twitter my solution but no response whatever.

Don't know why this stopped working in the first place but without this fixed would consign my TV to bin.... and maybe that's a Samsung plan to get us to buy new TV's.
