Hey there and welcome to the Samsung UK and EU Community Customer to Customer Forum

Sorry to hear of your issues.

I'm no expert in this field but my immediate thought was that the backlight may have failed.

How old is your TV?
Have you tried a reset?

Hi @Paul990 and welcome

This could be a backlight issue where you might want a professional help. But before that there's few thing you can try.

Press and hold power on/off button on your remote for 5-10 seconds till your tv reboots.

HDMI connections. Check every single HDMI cable connected to TV check if there's any loose one.

Unplug all HDMI connected devices from your tv and try reset from your tv settings menu, when the reset is done don't plug devices back in turn of tv unplug from power source and plug it back and then try to reconnect them
Also make sure all HDMI cables are not damaged.

Contact samsung support for further assistance as tv might need professional repair.

@Paul990: Please can you confirm the model number of your TV? This can be found on the sticker on the back of the device, or in Settings > Support > About This TV?

In the meantime, please check if the issue persists on all channels and sources, or head to Menu > Settings > Support > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test. Is the shadow visible in the sample image?

@Paul990 Just to add you could also check  you have the latest firmware and that  different settings/modes make no difference.    Certainly check the cabling and troubleshooting mentioned by @lminvti .   It would also be a good idea to try a Picture Test ,  Settings-Support-Device care-Self Diagnosis-picture Test.  in some older models do not have Device care but Self Diagnosis is listed under support.

If any errors are identified would need to contact Samsung and pressing case if other Troubleshooting fails (not sure on  warranty status though)v  Yes it may be the backlight but this would need to be identified.

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

I think you could be right.
I turned on and off. Reset and restored factory settings.
Plugged out everything and checked all connections. Nothing worked !

I don't suppose it came with a 5 year warranty at the time did it?

Samsung have run promotions from time to time including a 5 year warranty
