Subtitles disabled on tv

I have a Samsung UE 43 8000tv.

I am unable to turn on the subtitles .

I have tried general> accessibility > subtitles, but i am unable to turn it on, it just keeps saying “ this function isn’t available” and the button is greyed out . I am unable to make it go blue. 

I have checked the E Manuel  and that doesn’t seem to cover it.

I have pressed the Ad/ SUBT BUTTON on the remote but that takes me back to the accessibility shortcuts.

somewhere I need to re initiate this function.

additionally, I have tried this on various programmes .

could be the programs don't support subtitles and not a problem with the tv

Morning all, happy Christmas.

I have tried various different programmes, films, news that should have subtitles.

the problem seems to be that the function of subtitles is off on the TV , as I said it is greyed out and no matter what I try it keeps saying this function is unavailable,

It would seem that somehow the subtitle accessibility has been switched off as it keeps telling me it is ‘disabled’ so I think I need to go into some other menu to re activate subtitles, only I don’t know where to go to do this?
