Q95T and Dolby Atmos

Hi, thinking about updating my 2018 frame with the Q95T and a Sonos Arc. One question though, will apps on the TV from Netflix,  Apple, and Disney etc have access to Atmos content, that can be passed through via Earc?

No point in investing a lot of money to not get Dolby Atmos? Any advice appreciated.

Sound can be passed though the TV, you just have to configure it directly. Just be aware that if the TV doesn't support the protocols itself at best it can pass-though the content unmodified. Effectively meaning that that you would need a third party mediabox or a game console that supports Dolby Atmos.

Me neither. The Samsung Support guy told me that it is because the Q95T does not support Dolby Atmos. I can't believe it.

So. yes the Q95T does not offer Dolby Atmos but is passed Dolby Atmos through both as compressed (via DD+ and ARC) and Uncompressed (Dolby TruHD via eARC). The built in Netflix app streams relevant content in Dolby Atmos, and external devices where the capability is present offers it on pass through. So BluRay that have Atmos such as Mad Max Fury Road via PS4 etc.

Q95T does have issued at the moment regards eARC and this is being worked on by both parties to resolve.

Yes, this was the case before the last update 1304!
Since then, my Samsung HW-800T sound bar connected in eARC doesn't receive any more Dolby ATMOS from Amazon for example!

Mines the same. I have been on the phone to Samsung support and they said that it should not be greyed out and it does support it. They have escalated it to another level. Pass through it greyed out as well.

You have probably worked out by now that you get different advice depending upon who answers the phone.  Eventually, the most convincing advice was that Dolby ATMOS can only be passed through using eARC.  It is not possible using ARC.

So, I bought the HW-Q950T soundbar, the Atmos option was no longer greyed out and I could get Dolby ATMOS on Netflix and Amazon Prime, but not DisneyPlus.  Samsung TVs are not supported for Dolby ATMOS by DisneyPlus.

However, you can plug an AppleTV 4K into the soundbar and get Dolby Atmos from DisneyPlus that way.

But there is one caveat: you must plug the AppleTV 4K into the HDMI4 (HDMI3 is the eARC port).  HDMI1 and 2 do not have enough bandwidth for both Dolby ATMOS and 4K, the TV will tell you this before displaying the content in 1080P.  So, if you have a 4K Blu-ray player and an AppleTV 4K, then you need to do the cable dance.
