Q950ts 65" earc sound issue - Popping/Clipping sound on Audio Sync

Hello all, does anyone else have a setup where by they use the earc system to transfer audio to their AV amplifier?

If I switch HDMI earc to Auto in the menu system there is a horrible popping clipping sound when the audio tries to sync. This can be heard at all levels, changing programmes on Samsung TV, browsing Netflix movies and even when watching a Blu Ray via earc.

If the HDMI earc is set to off utilising the normal ARC then the audio is fine. There are no pops or clicks.

The problem with this is switching HDMI to off means you cannot pass through the hi resolution audio codecs like Dolby Atmos.

If you have had similar issues id love to hear from you.

Thanks.

I had been having audio dropout and glitches using eARC on my new Q90T and had been disabling it as you describe to avoid this. I did find something that appears to have fixed eARC for me though. Go to Settings -> Sound -> Expert Settings,  and set Digital Output Audio Format from Auto to Pass-Through.

Thanks for commenting, I’ve tried everything even what you have suggested but there is no stable outcome.

I’m waiting for a call from support in the new year so I do hope that Samsung can fix this.

For now though, earc will remain off for me.

I have the same popping issue using eARC. I have a 65 inch Q70T using HDMIeArc for sound output into an eArc capable AV receiver. I purchased new high end HDMI cable and it did not help. Also, I’m unable to set the HDMI eArc mode to “pass through” as someone mentioned. What’s going on Samsung?

I’ve pretty much given up on the eARC issue, it’s impossible to get to the right person to speak to so I guess I just have to wait until Samsung release another firmware update. Samsung also do not show the release notes so we have no idea what’s in the updates.

You’ll only get pass through if you have an external player connected to the one connect box. Pass I not available with the in built apps.

I've experienced the same thing.  I have a Pioneer vsx-lx505 and using eARC from the One Connect box.  I'm getting a lot of popping/clicking when switching between apps (e.g. Amazon Prime, Netflix) and when selecting tiles/movies inside the apps.  While looking at the display on the AV receiver, I've noticed that it shows that it's possibly losing the audio signal when switching and pops when it regains the signal.  It also appears to be specific to eARC.  When switching to ARC instead, the popping goes away, but you lose all the benefits of eARC (higher bitrate/sample size, uncompressed audio, higher throughput, etc.).

On a side note, I'm also getting a significant amount of speaker hiss when selecting the TV source, but not any other sources.  Wondering if there's bad shielding or something in the One Connect box.

I not sure if any of that helps, but sorry to hear that Samsung isn't very helpful in resolving it.

Did you ever solve your problem? I too have a very noticeable crackling sound when switching sources, especially built in apps (e.g. start netflix, while browsing, there's lots of noise).

Hello, no I did not and I don't know if its just this issue but until recently Samsung support have been so incredibly difficult to deal with its been extremely painful.

They kept telling me "a product specialist will call in 24-48 hours" this went on for weeks and no one ever called. Between Samsung and John Lewis (who don't have warranty for software) this has been an incredibly painful support query thats been going on for 2 years now without resolution.

Yes I still have the issue, its very much present and annoying as hell.

The Q950TS is the most shocking TV Samsung have ever produced. Sell it and get another seriously don’t stress yourself out over it.

Samsung and the people who reviewed this TV should be held accountable.
