Having recently received the Q90R update thats supposed to enable EARC, im still unable to make use of it because the TV doesnt have the capability.

Maybe i am doing something wrong but the TV cannot even pass through 5.1 from a device connected to the One Connect box.

Ive read online that other brand TVs are now able to enjoy this feature when connected to a Samsung soundbar.

Hi,

I have spent 5 hours speaking to multiple advisors to find this out and I really think they don’t know themselves.

Some advisors who call themselves “Experts” and “Engineers” contradict each other.

I can’t find any info on the manual. Some advisors say all 4 ports are HDMI 2.1 and E-Arc, others say none are HDMI 2.1 and only arc.

Some say HDMI Port 1 or 4 is HDMI 2.1 and the rest are 2.0. Others say all 4 ports are HDMI 2.0b and Port 3 is Arc but it actually has all the features of HDMI 2.1 and e-Arc but because of licensing, they could not advertise them as 2.1 and e-Arc.

Reports say a software update is on it’s way for e-arc and others say this cannot be done.

Now as a customer, what should I believe? How Samsung cannot definitively say the truth, I can’t believe.

Furthermore, that a flagship 8K costing thousands of pounds doesn’t have HDMI 2.1 and E-Arc is shocking!

After 3 hours, the webchat agent says a specialist will call me tomorrow and explain this to me, but I have no confidence in Samsung anymore.

If this is the case no HdMI 2.1 and no E-Arc, Samsung should upgrade via update if possible or send all 950R 8K users an upgraded box with these features in for spending thousands of pounds on the flagship.

If enough of us complain, anyone feel they will listen and give us HDMI and e-ARC for Q950R?

At this point I'm not sure what to believe. If you check the likes of Twitter there's message after message of people asking and Samsung have now stopped even bothering to reply. Why would the q900 get it but not 950, surely they're the same oneconnect?

tbh if you connect up the 950 to a AVR that is eARC and everything else is eARC, the TV can just be a DumbTV. with no eARC thats what my screen is with a Denon 4700h

This is just something i've read elsewhere... To be taken with a pinch of salt.

"eARC Update for 2019 QLED in 1-2 weeks expected, finger are crossed."

@Larry73  Hi - been in hospital for a planned op and got out last week, since when I've been catching up.  I've jumped the gun somewhat in buying an HDfury AVR Key because as whilst it's possible eARC firmware may be released for our TVs this month, I'm further told that eARC doesn't pass through some (or all?) of the DTS formats, which self defeats the purpose of having it in the first place.  I haven't yet set up the HDfury as it means a lot of bending down etc., which I'm not yet quite up to, but hopefully this device will overcome the 1 x HDMI Out on my new Media Player and allow me to view HDR10 + titles.

Sounds like some people have managed to get hold of the 1387.1 firmware and earc has been enabled.
