Hi

I have a UE55HU8500 UK TV and am considering buying one of the 2020 QLED TVs. I have some TV recordings that I would like to keep. Can recordings made on the current TV be played on a new TV or are they specific to the old TV?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey @jcpreston! We have asked to one of our specialists and due to Digital Rights Management, the recordings are digitally signed to only playback on the TV they were recorded on.

@jcpreston  @CarloL Think the reason recordings are digitally locked to be a specific Tv  is to protect copyright and not allow access to any device.  Though obviously this may be disappointing, digital copy protection has increased over the years.

How Frustrating, since I can't watch a station and record another one, i decided to try to record the program from the guest bedroom.  All was fine, except i can't see the recording on the main tv.  For smart TV's they are not very smart.  I really don't want to lay on the bed and watch a recording.  Does anyone know a way around this?

Unfortunately you can blame the US for that and for the manufacturers for caving in to a rigid interpretation of DRM, personal recording is allowed but with the exception of some freeview boxes all TV recordings are now locked to an individual TV, if it goes wrong your lose your recordings and no manufacturer has been bright enough to consider that, they seem to forget that most are timeshifts but then you can't watch another channel at the same time, use a freeview box that does not encrypt your recordings.
