Optical Out always on? Can you turn it off?

The red light on the optical out socket seems to be always lit red even though it's not in use. On the PlayStation 3 the light goes out if you turn off the optical out.

Can you do the same on Samsung tvs?

This also happens on my Q60R. My surround amp is via HDMI, and my stereo amp is optical. Impossible to use it this way now.

Does anyone have a fix? Samsung?
