I have a NHL tv subscription but i am unable to download the app on my samsung 8 tv, does anyone have any suggestions how i can play this on my TV.

Isn't NHL in USA ? And you're in the UK ?

'cause if that's the case , most ( if not ALL ) content is designed to be available only in North America. Of course, i might be mistaken...
