Do all you good people who bought a 2016 Samsung TV know Samsung have stopped supporting it. The promised they would support HLG (BBC Iplayer HDR). This was in the Dec 2016 Trusted Reviews and What Hi Fi. They have not and if you had bought a Panasonic or LG 2016 set you would be able to watch Iplayer Blue Planet 2 in glorious HLG. This is a big issue because HLG looks like the standard for all over the air broadcasting. Samsung are not even supporting a 4K update to Iplayer. The reason looks like it will cost just 5 cents or pence per unit. So my telly I bought in Jan 2017 is deemed as out of date by Samsung!!!!!!

You wrote in your Dec 2016 issue that Samsung were supporting HLG in their 2016 models. Do you know that Samsung have supported their 2017 models but not the 2016 models. I know because the BBC IPlayer Blue Planet 2 will not play in 4K or HLG. It's not good considering Panasonic and LG both do support their 2016 models. It means my KS model I bought in Jan is now deemed out of date by Samsung. It looks like their are royalty fees which Samsung will not pay! Not good.

All you people in the UK can return your KS TVs IF you bought it for the use of the smartthings Extend that will never be coming out for our TVs. ***** is how.

Tell them you want a full refund because they promised that if you bought a KS TV you would get a FREE Smartthings Extend. They proof you will need is easy to find and is the reason you bought this TV.

I bought mine from J Lewis and the Samsung Extend addvert is still there https://www.johnlewis.com/electricals/samsung/smart-tv/c9601000048?rdr=1

If you bought your KS TV from currys http://techtalk.currys.co.uk/tv-gaming/tv/how-to-control-your-home-from-your-smart-tv/

They both say that you will get a free smartthings extend USB dongle.

Now send you TVs back for a full refund Smiley Happy

All those who bought a Samsung TV in 2016 may have claim for miss selling. It basically means that all you folks who bought the 2016 Samsung units have 2 choices. After Dec 2016 and if you had seen any articles that are press release's about HLG support and that influenced you decision to buy may have a case. For all those owners who read the info from the retailers on their web pages and saw and was influenced by the promise of the smart connect which has not been honoured, then you also have a case for miss selling. If you all spread this in all available media then I am sure the retailers would put pressure on to Samsung to correct this. If nothing else you could end up with nice shiny LG or Panasonic, or the new Philips that all are HLG BBC iplayer compatible, and with the HDR10 plus that again Samsung have still not implemented, you may be best with LG and Dolby Vision.

Also take a copy of the retailers web page before they change the description.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRSWoUmU5YQ

I will try to explain how to get a refund for miss selling (seen how much the LG's have come down). I followed this way and got a full refund or a JS8000.

You need to show that you asked or believed that or influenced by claims made about the capabilities of the TV. With BBC Iplayer HLG it's from the Trusted reviews and What Hi Fi, and any other publications and if you asked the retailer.

https://www.whathifi.com/advice/hdr-tv-what-it-how-can-you-get-it#6locceZo3Zf8yi5T.99

you can show you had been informed.

It's different with the smart connect as that is advertised on the main retailers web sites,

https://www.johnlewis.com/electricals/samsung/smart-tv/c9601000048?rdr=1
http://techtalk.currys.co.uk/tv-gaming/tv/how-to-control-your-home-from-your-smart-tv/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRSWoUmU5YQ

As the donngle's have not turned up you now claim miss selling, so either go to your retailer or email them with the web page, and explain why you think you were miss sold. Also phone Citizens Advice 03444 111 444 and raise a case (this also gets past on to Trading Standards). Explain that the retailer informed you off the capabilities via their web page information, and either show the page printer or the link, as above.

They will advise and link you to some template letters to send to your retailer.

I had to send a letter of intent to take legal action (template from Citizens Advice) against Curry's but then they gave me a refund.

So mention all the promises from Samsung full support for HLG, Smart Connect, and HDR10+

It will cost nothing to ask and again may bring some pressure on to Samsung.

I had the KS8000 from Richersounds. Followed the advice and within 6hrs Richersounds apologised acknowledged and offered me a credit to the original price £1449

On top of that they even let me use online codes to discount the new OLED i bought.

Well played RS highly impressed. They said samsung were refunding them.

Thanks to the original poster... so happy got a new 55" OLED and £50 spare for me to buy some treats!

Hi,

I'm in the same situation, disgusted that Samsung aren't supporting BBC 4K/HDR on their 2016 models, and bought my KS7000 from Richer Sounds so am interested in trying to get a refund.

Can you (or anybody else) point me to the advice/process in the thread I need to contact Richer Sounds with? Difficult going through 79 pages to find the correct stuff..!

Thanks a lot!

Just start at page 1 and everything you need is in the first few pages. It is an interesting read though how it started and how others got their refunds and some of the excusses some of the retailers have tried to use.

Did you pay £1449 for the TV or was that the RRP at the time?

Trying to plan ahead just in case I have any success with currys. My ks7000 had a RRP of £1399 but I got it on sale for £949.

So would replacement TV need to be valued at £1399 or the price I paid.

Price you paid.

Hi,

I also got my 49KS7000 through Reliant in Nov 2016 but took up their 0% loan via Hitachi - so who should I make my compliant to for the easier resolution of the claim?

I was looking for the original 2016 advert 2 days ago and found it quite easily as a cached page, but strangely this has now disappared...

Luckily web archive has come to the rescue and the spec page states iOT functionality.

If the retailer is informed that their advertising is incorrect then they must remove that false advertisement. But unless you have the original advertisement that can be a problem,  but the web achieve is useful. A good retailer will admit to the misrepresentation but they are not all good.

As to your situation you have very strong position. Firstly contact your retailer and use the which tool at the beginning of this thread. If that does not get the result then contact the credit company and request a refund for breach of contract due to misrepresentation and explain why. Then wait as they sort things out and should be quite some as long as you can show the retailer advertised the dongle.

That is an issue as the dongle isn't mentioned, but functionality for IOT is marked as "yes". However IOT control could not occur as the enabling device was never launched - well that will be my reasoning to Reliant.
Reliant gave me very good service, so it seems a pity that they have to take the hassle in resolving this when Samsung are not delivering the hype and not dealing with direct contact from disappointed customers.

I did start the process, tentatively, with Curry’s back in January.  They sent a lot of automated emails with a reference number but when you reply with that number, you get a reply ( where they completely miss the point) with now a different number. This results in the chain of emails completely breaking down.  I didn’t push at the time as it was unclear how things would pan out with possible Samsung updates etc.

Im generally very happy with the quality of my panel, it’s calibrated, and mine being the 60 inch model is the perfect size for my chimney wall. I will probably pursue Curry’s again when the breakthrough is made but don’t have the time or energy right now to be ‘the one’.  Dropping down to a 55” isn’t appealing though but 65” is probably too big.

How old is the TV ?

Not relevant in any way to this thread.  Don't fall for any retailer asking this question, or engage in any line of questioning about the age of the TV! :smiling-face:

The 2015 consumer law gives you up to 6 years from the data of purchase, and the 2016 KS models were launched in March 2016.

Only when we get to the year 2022, do retailers gets to question how old the TV is. :smiling-face:

It's entirely relevant , as your first year is with Samsung and after that it is with whoever provides your extended warranty 👍

After a week I finally got a reply from John Lewis, even though I had to email them again.

Anyway, they said they are looking in to things and will get back to me in due course.

I brought a display 55 KS7500 so I don't know if they will refund, here's hoping though.
