KS Owners refund

Do all you good people who bought a 2016 Samsung TV know Samsung have stopped supporting it. The promised they would support HLG (BBC Iplayer HDR). This was in the Dec 2016 Trusted Reviews and What Hi Fi. They have not and if you had bought a Panasonic or LG 2016 set you would be able to watch Iplayer Blue Planet 2 in glorious HLG. This is a big issue because HLG looks like the standard for all over the air broadcasting. Samsung are not even supporting a 4K update to Iplayer. The reason looks like it will cost just 5 cents or pence per unit. So my telly I bought in Jan 2017 is deemed as out of date by Samsung!!!!!!

You wrote in your Dec 2016 issue that Samsung were supporting HLG in their 2016 models. Do you know that Samsung have supported their 2017 models but not the 2016 models. I know because the BBC IPlayer Blue Planet 2 will not play in 4K or HLG. It's not good considering Panasonic and LG both do support their 2016 models. It means my KS model I bought in Jan is now deemed out of date by Samsung. It looks like their are royalty fees which Samsung will not pay! Not good.

All you people in the UK can return your KS TVs IF you bought it for the use of the smartthings Extend that will never be coming out for our TVs. ***** is how.

Tell them you want a full refund because they promised that if you bought a KS TV you would get a FREE Smartthings Extend. They proof you will need is easy to find and is the reason you bought this TV.

I bought mine from J Lewis and the Samsung Extend addvert is still there https://www.johnlewis.com/electricals/samsung/smart-tv/c9601000048?rdr=1

If you bought your KS TV from currys http://techtalk.currys.co.uk/tv-gaming/tv/how-to-control-your-home-from-your-smart-tv/

They both say that you will get a free smartthings extend USB dongle.

Now send you TVs back for a full refund Smiley Happy

All those who bought a Samsung TV in 2016 may have claim for miss selling. It basically means that all you folks who bought the 2016 Samsung units have 2 choices. After Dec 2016 and if you had seen any articles that are press release's about HLG support and that influenced you decision to buy may have a case. For all those owners who read the info from the retailers on their web pages and saw and was influenced by the promise of the smart connect which has not been honoured, then you also have a case for miss selling. If you all spread this in all available media then I am sure the retailers would put pressure on to Samsung to correct this. If nothing else you could end up with nice shiny LG or Panasonic, or the new Philips that all are HLG BBC iplayer compatible, and with the HDR10 plus that again Samsung have still not implemented, you may be best with LG and Dolby Vision.

Also take a copy of the retailers web page before they change the description.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRSWoUmU5YQ

I will try to explain how to get a refund for miss selling (seen how much the LG's have come down). I followed this way and got a full refund or a JS8000.

You need to show that you asked or believed that or influenced by claims made about the capabilities of the TV. With BBC Iplayer HLG it's from the Trusted reviews and What Hi Fi, and any other publications and if you asked the retailer.

https://www.whathifi.com/advice/hdr-tv-what-it-how-can-you-get-it#6locceZo3Zf8yi5T.99

you can show you had been informed.

It's different with the smart connect as that is advertised on the main retailers web sites,

https://www.johnlewis.com/electricals/samsung/smart-tv/c9601000048?rdr=1
http://techtalk.currys.co.uk/tv-gaming/tv/how-to-control-your-home-from-your-smart-tv/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRSWoUmU5YQ

As the donngle's have not turned up you now claim miss selling, so either go to your retailer or email them with the web page, and explain why you think you were miss sold. Also phone Citizens Advice 03444 111 444 and raise a case (this also gets past on to Trading Standards). Explain that the retailer informed you off the capabilities via their web page information, and either show the page printer or the link, as above.

They will advise and link you to some template letters to send to your retailer.

I had to send a letter of intent to take legal action (template from Citizens Advice) against Curry's but then they gave me a refund.

So mention all the promises from Samsung full support for HLG, Smart Connect, and HDR10+

It will cost nothing to ask and again may bring some pressure on to Samsung.

All sorted with richer sounds Ireland , couldn’t be happier with the customer service both on the phone and regular emails and they have replaced my tv and will pick up the Samsung , as you’ve seen they even took the trouble to post on here which is a first after 130 pages of posts . They have a lifetime customer in me .

I have to say I am impressed with them and hold my hands up. They put to shame the likes of John Lewis and Curry's and what is even more impressive is they are an independent company in Ireland and have done what the major retailers should have done months ago.  What is so good is they actually replied here and good on them. Well done and everyone in Ireland you know where to go.

Well done

The winners in this whole facade:

Richer Sounds

The undoubted losers:

Samsung

Currys

John Lewis

Never shall I give my business ever again to the latter 3. Apalling how they treat their customers. They do not deserve to be in business at all.

Agreed. And Richer Sounds - not at all surprised, I've known they are great for years.
Equally, Curry's - not at all surprised, I've known they are the worst of the worst for years. I just hope more people now know, and tell everyone.

BUT, John Lewis' behaviour in all this has however left me absolutely gobsmacked. I thought they were one of the good retailers.

At a time when so many of our loved retail chains are going to the wall and we are witnessing a siesmic change in retailing in the UK from the death of the high street to the rise of the internet - the fact that such absolute crooks like Curry's inexplicably survive, against all logic and against all justice, just leaves me very sad.

ps. There's another winner we forgot - LG! Their beautiful TV makes me very happy. And folks, its WebOS and magic pointer (like a Nintendo Wii remote pointer) is way better than I thought it would be. Many times better than Samsung's Tizen. It makes using onscreen keyboards a cinch, and also you can click and drag your position in YouTube and Amazon Prime Video to quickly get to any part of a video (just like you can with a mouse on a PC). It's fantastic just for that, even if the picture quality wasn't fantastic as well which it ls :smiling-face:

Good point!  I shall be replacing all my Samsung TVs with LGs.

Hi

been following this for a while . and wasn't to bothered about smart things how ever I was upset that my ks8000 wasn't getting the bbc iplayer 4k update . however I called richer sounds head office and told them about the smart things and about bbc iplayer and they said they was aware of the issue and I could get the nu8000 as a replacement.  I then told them that this was not as good tv as the ks8000.  after bit of research I had a few choices either the last 55q8f in the company that they had to get from another shop or the sony xf9005  which was nice but only has 2 full speed hdmi and I have ps4 pro an xbox one x and nvidia shield.  the other was the Panasonic oled but not keen on the burn in problems with OLED and I also have the Samsung hw-k650.  so I said to exeter branch to get me the samsung  QE55Q8F  so far very impressed . the remote works every time an issue I had with the ks screen and picture looks loads better and it don't have the led bleed my ks started to have near bottom of the screen . so far so good new 6 year warranty and I now have 4k bbc iplayer . I must say richer sounds exeter have been awesome.  planet earth 2 4k is amazing on the Samsung QE55Q8F  I know it's not 2018 model but 2 years of advancement I'm very happy so far . xbox x and ps4 pro looks great. thank you

Great stuff,  and again richer sounds comes good. Can tell me where you heard about this forum and also please spread the word to other owners,  and thanks for sharing your success with us.

I found it by doing a google search for ks8000  and BBC I player 4k and it was in the search.  read a few pages and thought I'd pursue it . glad I did . this is the 3rd tv from richer sounds and always a pleasure.  hope other people have success as me . but really think samsung should do a recall and offer something else direct or refund .

Seems to have gone a bit quiet here. Has anyone made any progress with Curry's as yet? I am still in talks back and forth via email at the moment trying to negotiate a resolution with their CEO Support team. They have given me a few options but nothing I am willing to accept at this point. I have also sent a 'Letter before action' to their legal department.

As for Samsung, I spent around 2 hours on the phone yesterday being bounced around from pillar to post, advisor to manager and ultimately their response was "Well do you have any evidence?". It's truly distubring that a company of their stature is acting in this way to an error they have made. Any 'decent' company would put their hands up and try to put things right with their customer base. I will never in my life put another penny into Samsung's hands. It's times like this you see the true colours of a company. Ultimately this is Samsung's fault for lying and trying to manipulate the market in my opinion and now retailers are paying the price. (Though as consumers, our claim will always be with our point of sale.) I can only hope that the likes of Curry's and John Lewis eventually take legal action against Samsung.

We will get there eventually, one way or another because this isn't going away.

Had another good result from richer sounds but nothing yet for curry's or jl. I found dealing with Samsung their customer support were not much help but when I contacted their uk CEO then this  seemed to move.
