So, of the nigh on 400 TVs supported in BBC iplayer for the Blue Planet II HLG episodes none are from Samsung. Oh joy.
...
Moderator edit: Original thread title was "Blue Planet 2 HLG - No Samsung". With the OP's permission, the title was changed on 12/03/2018 to accurately reflect the dominant theme of the thread as it has progressed. If the reader would like to know more about the HLG format, please check out the BBC's page and FAQ's on it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/projects/high-dynamic-range Thank you, AntS.

That's exactly what I'm experiencing now having set HDMI4 to movie settings. So yes can see Football Loop in HLG using Roku but nothing else. So unless the World Cup is transmitted the same way as the Football Loop, I have wasted my money on the Roku lol. I'm guessing I'll similarly be in the same place with the HD Fury too - come on Samsung do the right thing, sort out the EDID and avoid me having to shell out more cash

The HD Fury is different as that would be fooling all inputs that the TV supports HLG. So if you connect any conncted device that sends HLG e.g. the Virgin Media V6 box the HD Fury will allow the HLG to pass through. However that costs around £175 as opposed to the £60 for the Roku+

A question for you knowledgeable people on here. I'm looking to replace my AV amp soon and I was looking at the Yamaha RXA870. This amp supports Dolby Vision and HLG. Does that mean that if I connect my Virgin Media V6 to the AVR the V6 iPlayer app would send HLG to it and the amp would pass it through to my TV?

No you’re just moving the problem. You would still need a Fury between the amp and the TV to bypass EDID.

Or get a refund for miss selling and get a 2018 samsung.

Thanks

It'll display the video at 4k but in SDR. No one knows yet if the world cup will work on it at all as so far several statements from both the BBC and Roku have stated it will NOT be included in this upcoming trial, however the broadcast football loop has been reported as working on the Roku, so who knows the truth. The JS sets do NOT have any capability to display in HLG from any source whatsoever (and never will due to a physical incompatability).

Wish you would stop harping on - get a grip and start recognising, when fed with the right signal - like a UHD HDR Bluray feed - the KS is unsurpassed, including the OLED LG's IMHO. This thread is finished with this now. It has taken a different direction

You you are trying to say 2016 TVs are better than 2018 TVs? Very odd.

No. The amp reads the EDID from the TV and passes that on to the media player. At least that's what my Yamaha YSP-2700 does.

And you are happy with Samsung selling you a telly that's out of date within 12 months. Also those that have got the oled are well happy. But the main thing is the only way to get Samsung to treat their customers fairly is to make them pay. Also I have every right to make reasonable comments and suggestions to anyone here, and as we can see more and more are going down the ks refund route. If you are not happy then ignore my posts.
