Hi @Anonymous User Whilst  Samsung tend to recommend hard drives with an external power supply and a maximum capacity of 2 TB and 5400 rpm, however USB powered devices should be fine.  You may find some useful information in this thread https:https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/TV-Audio-Video/Smart-Tv-and-External-Hard-Drive-compatibil...

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

I have a 2TB Seagate slim drive (USB powered) attached to mine. It works fine.

Thanks for the info.

Do you keep it attached or have to unplug form the TV it before turning it off?

There is no risk to the TV by turning it on or off with or without the HDD connected, however i would advise not unplugging the HDD if it is still spinning, as you may damage the platter, and corrupt data on it.
If the HDD isn't allowed to idle by the TV, and keeps spinning even when no in use, then simply turn off the TV before removing it.
The risk of corruption is low, but why risk it.
