I havne't seen this issue reported, so apologies if this is a duplicate. I recently bought a UN50NU69FXZA smart TV to replace an older model that didn't have the smart features. My goal was to not only have a 4k TV, but to eliminate the external Roku box that I'd used for years and consolidate that service from the TV.
I have an issue that I can't seem to resolve, and Samsung can't either. I'm starting to wonder if it's just the way things will be.
Everything connects through a Yamaha A/V reciever. Connected items are a PS4, a PC, and an Xfinity X1 cable box. These all connect into the various HDMI inputs on the Yamaha. A sinlge HDMI cable connects the Yamaha and the Samsung via the HDMI Out of the Yamaha. The HDMI Out is ARC capable, and it connects to the HDMI-2-ARC on the Samsung (although using HDMI-1 as a test didn't change anything).
When I watch TV from the Cable box, everything is fine and works great, through the surround sound speakers.
When I change the source to the Samsung Smart TV to watch Netflix, Prime, Hulu, or anything else, the X1 Cable box sound is still heard AND the Netflix, Prime, Hulu etc sound is heard at the same time. It's like the Samsung can't ignore the Cable box sound when switching sources to another app. The X1 cable box stays on, and is supposed to. It did that in the older setup, but it wasnt an issue.
When I swtich to watch Netflix, I want the TV to ignore the Cable box input and play only the Netflix Output.
How can fix this so that only one source is heard? I've tried swtiching inputs from HDMI1 to HDMI2-ARC, I've tried using an optical sound cable from the Samsun to the reciever. I've called samsung support, and they seemed to think it was the Yamaha being too old, so I went and bought a new one (an RX-V385) and that did absolutely nothing--same issue.
Is there a way to have this Television do what I'd like? Seems odd to me, that the TV can't discern the input based on the source I select so that it only plays what is selected (i.e. if I watch cable, cable plays, if I watch Netflix, only Netflix is played.)

Sorry I can't provide an answer, but I was hoping someone else has the solution..... I have the same problem!! I have 2 computers hooked to my TV via HDMI and I watch off air through the built in tuner. At first everything worked fine, then here is what happened first....
HDMI 1 sound would play on top of HDMI 2 and the off air input, AND I could not adjust the volume of HDMI 1, even when viewing HDMI 1.
THEN, for no apparent reason, HDMI 1 started working fine again, BUT, HDMI 2 started doing the exact same thing.... the audio from HDMI 2 would play simultaneously with all other inputs AND I could not adjust the volume of HDMI2 even when viewing it!!
This is what it is currently doing, and it drives me crazy!!! I have tried all the settings on the TV and I have done a factory reset.... no difference!!!! I sure hope someone has an answer!!!

Well, since I have the same issue, it tells me that I'm not alone with this issue. I have not been able to resolve my issue. It seems as though it's a software issue, or bug. I'm not keen on calling Samsung again, as they seem to try the same things over and over again with no luck, or try to blame the cord, the A/V tuner, or some other non-issue.
I can't believe that no one else is reporting this.
