i was given a samsung un65js8500fxza little did i know there is no hdmi ports on the back. how do i connect an device with hdmi

If it only has a scart connection you will need a scart to hdmi adapter.

Sorry looking at that model it should have a one connect box which is about the size of a book that is separate to the tv and connects to the tv with a lead. This one connect box is where you plug in hdmi cables ect

Ginger _p is correct, it's not going to work without a one connect box.
