Burning smell coming from tv

I’ve had my Samsung 55” tv for just over 5 years and today I woke up to a horrid burning smell which is coming from the back of my TV. I Tried turning it on and it made an odd pulsing sound and eventually the picture came up but now there is a dark shadow down one side of my screen.  I shocked this has happened as I’ve got a Samsung tv in the bedroom which is 12 years old.   Is there anything that can be done to fix it?
