Apps storage space issue

TV: UE55 NU7500

I'm not sure whether this is a general Samsung issue or just to do with my TV, but the amount of space allocated to the Smart Hub apps seems to be seriously lacking.

As this is a new TV I thought I'd explore some of the available apps, but when I went into the Apps area I got a message saying that there was insufficient space to update apps. This was before I had downloaded anything, so it would purely apply to the pre-installed apps.

I checked settings and the used space was 751MB with 64MB available, i.e. 7%. This seems absurd as these apps can't be deleted and are built into the system. The available space doesn't even allow them to be updated. I then tried resetting Smart Hub. This has helped to an extent as the available space is now 13%. However, it's still far too low and whenever I try and download a new app I get a warning about available space.

I can't believe that the pre-installed apps are taking around 700MB of space, and it seems crazy that Samsung would design the system this way. Presumably I will have to install an SD card to provide more space for the apps?

Any tips welcome as this is my first Samsung TV.

Well. Firstly, thankyou for your input.
You can add more storage in the way of playing things from usb. You seem to be missing the point.
No matter if you add a usb stick or HDD, you cannot move apps to this new storage.
Thus rendering the idea useless, as you need the space in the TV storage to run the update.
You see, we have traded ideas and they have not worked.
We passed the information onto Samsung Accredited engineers.
Guess what? They couldn't make more storage for the update. Thus a refund to buyers.

Currys said that self same explanation as yours to a customer. It didn't work and they were down another £50 on top of the set

In short. The usb adds storage, but you can't add/move apps from your TV to free up much needed space for a critical update installation.

This is exactly like early android phones. You could add a huge SD card to a phone to store music and such.
But the android OS would not let you move apps to the SD card, which meant the phone would get full on it's own internal storage.

Samsung USED to make great sets. Now they are getting passed by because of their decision to use very cheap solutions into mid-range price sets.

In fact what you're stating is not true. well  kind of, correct you can't move currently

permanent installed apps however uninstall a few apps that you installed yourself from the TV and install them instead on the USB, problem solved. Leave storage on the internal hard drive and just use the USB! all my apps are running from the USB. As an IT specialist I understand the need to not have to go an extra step for the consumer point of view.

@Neau could you please tell us how to install the non-preinstalled apps directly on the usb even if there is space on the internal memory? cause the real problem is that the tv software doesn't let you choose where to install your apps. They will be installed all to the internal memory until all the space is saturated. Only when the internal memory is full, the next app you decide to install will be installed on the external usb. But the problem is still there cos the internal memory will be still full for the firmware updates....

I think it's perhaps unwise to jump on a thread of this length with a comment such as this as a first post.

Yes it's correct that you cannot move permanently installed apps onto a USB drive.

The problem with this TV is that there is insufficient internal memory for the potentially critical firmware and security updates that Samsung push to the TV, leaving it potentially vulnerable.

I have NO additional apps installed on mine - ONLY the pre-installed apps, yet with 29.11Mb of internal storage free, the TV gives me an error message whenever I turn it on which says the automatic update cannot be completed because it needs

164.70MB. I have a 128Gb USB drive permanently plugged in but this cannot be used for the update because it can only be installed on the TV's internal storage which is not big enough. Fact.

I too had the same problem you all had. Hell I was confused because  at one point I was able to install about 5 to 8 apps then after a recent update to the firmware of the TV I was unable to install any updates to apps. Even after I deleted all the apps I install manually I was now unable to install any app. Despite I removed the apps I installed the system was still reading there was no space  at all and I knew this wasn't true. Because I just uninstalled 8 apps. So I put my technical skills to use. To fix this I preform a hard reset and then installed the usb from there I've been good to go. For the smart ass  comment about teeeveestuff Isn't it ironic how your problem falls under technology!?!?!? Hope this helps. I've worked tech support for many years and it's always the consumer who think they know better.🤷🏾‍♂️

@Crow610 That's exactly the same problem I had it would not let me choose where to install the applications. Try this, restore your TV to factory default removing any installed apps or settings after doing so check for an update from Samsung. After checking for firmware update clear the cache by holding the power button while TV is on. Hold the power button until tv turns off and on again. If done right you should see Samsung logo. please add a Fat32 formatted USB storage to the USB port that reads USB HDD before installing any other app. After installing USB, install any app of your choice you should then get the option to install on USB. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your input @Neau

I won't dignify you with a longer response, but I do know what I'm talking about in these circumstances.

Now crawl back under your rock.

Every few weeks we get an arrogant ignoramous like @Neau who claims to be an expert, demonstrating the exact opposite. It's like an organised trolling campaign. He's now on ignore.

Okay lads, lets just try and keep it civil!. I too wondered if @Neau had an affinity with Samsung.

I agree that newcomers should read back on posts from people on this thread who have jumped through the hoops and got the T-shirt   a F.A.Q. would have been ideal but a bit late in the day now if someone here new how to do it.

To all newcomers, the frustration involved with this issue can be annoying in the extreme. Being told to do things with the knowledge it will not make one scrap of difference to the set.

Apologies. It's thanks to the likes of @Tony47  @monk2 and @Rowley1 that this issue is finally getting sorted out for some of us. Thanks for your patience and hard work guys - your tethers are clearly longer than mine today...
