Apps storage space issue

TV: UE55 NU7500

I'm not sure whether this is a general Samsung issue or just to do with my TV, but the amount of space allocated to the Smart Hub apps seems to be seriously lacking.

As this is a new TV I thought I'd explore some of the available apps, but when I went into the Apps area I got a message saying that there was insufficient space to update apps. This was before I had downloaded anything, so it would purely apply to the pre-installed apps.

I checked settings and the used space was 751MB with 64MB available, i.e. 7%. This seems absurd as these apps can't be deleted and are built into the system. The available space doesn't even allow them to be updated. I then tried resetting Smart Hub. This has helped to an extent as the available space is now 13%. However, it's still far too low and whenever I try and download a new app I get a warning about available space.

I can't believe that the pre-installed apps are taking around 700MB of space, and it seems crazy that Samsung would design the system this way. Presumably I will have to install an SD card to provide more space for the apps?

Any tips welcome as this is my first Samsung TV.

Let's agree on the name and if possible have this name run across all media sites we use.

This helps with Search Engines and helps others find us.

I propose "FixOurSamsung"

FixOurSamsung NU74xx -- This group is for anyone that would like to join Citizins' Initiative. It would also be of benefit if we group ourselves by country. This would give us the means to lodge consumer complaints to the relevant complaint bodies withing the specific country. The wider we manage to highlight Samsung's refusal to acknowledge the problem, the better. It is linked to Samsung NU74xx storage group, where you can discuss the issue of the Samsung NU74xx TV and the inability to update software due to lack of storage space.

As my contribution i am writing an article about this problem and our attempts to get Samsung to do the right thing.

When it's done i will email it to a daily paper that often writes about consumer problems with the hope it will publish.

If it dosen't then i will send it to another paper then another until we are heard.

I don't want to say on this site which papers or what country as Samsung might try to stop it.

Good luck to all with this campaign. Just for the same of accuracy, I should point out that this issue affects all models in the NU7xxx range, not just the 74xx.

I'm this thread's OP and would get involved myself if I had a bit more time, but also I managed to get rid of my NU7500 last year after a 4-month tangle with John Lewis. I'm happy to post comments on Twitter and the new Facebook group, and will keep a close eye on the EU initiative.

Yep, as he said.

Mine, in fact , is a 7192 ( that still doesn't have any update offered past 1292.1 , and i'm monitoring the support site to download them. No, the update option is not greyed out in the settings )

FixOurSamsung NU74xx group can

- keep a log of members

- keep a list of any complaints you have already made, please post them in the group

- post your photos documenting the problem, this will be stored in Photo Albums

- admin needed, Cribonn do you want admin rights? It would be good for us to co ordinate the data we are collecting.

Guys, I have some news. The Samsung tech guy just came to my home in order to apply a new "fix instruction" from Samsung. The fix is to permanently remove e-Manual which consumes around 90mb. So, if you already had like 100mb left, now you have 190mb in total. The remove made in a way that eManual app wont return in a factory reset. I am not sure about new firmware. My guess, and Samsung tech said that as well, is that Samsung will remove eManual from the future firmware updates. So we have like 200mb for internal app updates and use of external USB stick for other apps.

That way they "fix" the problem without replacing the model with another one.

But I still disagree and I believe that 190mb is not enough and eventually in a few months we will be in the total zero.

UPDATE: I forgot to say that Samsung asked the guy to take photos and report everything. So my guess here is that they want to make some tests on my TV in order to apply to official firmware that will be released in a few days that totally removes eManual from all 2018 7xxxx TVs around the world. He was taking picture of everything, before, after, hidden menus etc.
