Apps storage space issue

TV: UE55 NU7500

I'm not sure whether this is a general Samsung issue or just to do with my TV, but the amount of space allocated to the Smart Hub apps seems to be seriously lacking.

As this is a new TV I thought I'd explore some of the available apps, but when I went into the Apps area I got a message saying that there was insufficient space to update apps. This was before I had downloaded anything, so it would purely apply to the pre-installed apps.

I checked settings and the used space was 751MB with 64MB available, i.e. 7%. This seems absurd as these apps can't be deleted and are built into the system. The available space doesn't even allow them to be updated. I then tried resetting Smart Hub. This has helped to an extent as the available space is now 13%. However, it's still far too low and whenever I try and download a new app I get a warning about available space.

I can't believe that the pre-installed apps are taking around 700MB of space, and it seems crazy that Samsung would design the system this way. Presumably I will have to install an SD card to provide more space for the apps?

Any tips welcome as this is my first Samsung TV.

I have just had my OFFICIAL reply from Samsung via Graham in Customer Solutions.

Samsung are denying its a manufacturing issue and will not be swapping any TV's.  He saw from my online chat that I had been told the main-board had been superseded but confirmed this is not the case.  He has also spoken to the engineer who came to me who confirmed that swapping a board will not fix the issue but Customer Solutions (0330 726 7864) are only now able to pass me back to Technical to see if they can do, 'something' but thats all they are prepared to do.

I just received my callback from AJ (or Ayjay?) in Customer Solutions. He couldn't give me any timescale on how long this software/firmware update route will be pursued before considering alternatives. He could only 'assure' me it's with the engineers though the technical specialist assigned to this issue is presently on holiday.

I can go back to RS but my issue is a lack of suitable alternatives. Unfortunately I can't stretch my budget terribly far and the NU7400 has the best response time by far for my Xbox.

This BS is exactly the same script that they've been spinning since before Christmas. Contemptible.

I've just engaged a solicitor he's going after the retailer for 'breach of contract' as tv doesn't do what it says on the tin.

It's a shame it has to come to that but the contract is with the retailer and not the manufacturer, so the retailer has to play ball. I hope a solicitor's letter is enough to jolt them into action. Did you purchase from Crampton and Moore? Always good to know who to avoid in future.

I was contacted this morning by the company that was supposed to be checking my TV tomorrow. They wanted to streamline the process and make a diagnosis over the phone, then visit with the required part.

I took a deep breath and explained the situation. I was put through to the MD and he was surprised and said he'd not heard of it before. He then checked the Samsung bulletin board to see if the issue was listed, but it wasn't (surprise, surprise).

He phoned back and said that he now has to issue a Q&A to Samsung to research the issue in more depth. This will take 2-3 days so he'll phone me with the result. I said to him that he won't get very far as Samsung will just deny everything.

I have a feeling that he won't be able to help as unless Samsung admit the defect he can't take any action or make a recommendation for a replacement unit. I'll probably have to go back to JL next week and try one last time for a replacement. If they decline then I'll take legal action against them, as the user above has done with his retailer.

Sorry to hear that Tony, clearly Samsun are nothing but cowboys, surprised JL aren't playing ball tho 😞

Picked up my LG today, excellent service from Joe at the Sheffield RS branch.

I shall report back on the LG once its setup when I get home.

Thanks Steve, I think JL will probably come up trumps but they seem to be a lot less amenable than they were a few years ago, which must be due to them losing money hand over fist these days. Brilliant news on your LG replacement, you must be so relieved! From now on it's RS or AO for me.

To any IT types out there - is there a simple way to save this entire thread as an offline file? It's an excellent resource with very useful detail, and for that reason I'm concerned that Samsung will just delete it. I've tried to save it using Chrome but all that does is save the specific page.

I am one of those IT types (not web tho), but I think it would be a matter of saving each of the 24+ pages as a "webarchive" or PDF 😞

Another IT type here - you can create an offline mirror (local copy) with a website ripper like HTTrack. Use the first page of this thread as the URL and it will download the entire thread for offline viewing. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer scheduling for automatic downloading so you'll need to re-run it periodically to update your local copy. The website has a manual/step-by-step tutorial but feel free to contact me if you need more help.

Brilliant, many thanks. That's a weekend project for me.

I've now run HTTrack and successfully downloaded the entire thread! What a clever application. I'll update the mirror site periodically as this tedious drama continues.

Hi do you think Samsung will try and say there is nothing in the specifications listed about how much internal storage is on the tv ?
