Is there any update on play movies in 4k on earlier TV's?

My TV plays Prime, Netflix and YouTube in 4k Hdr, but the couple of play movies I have in 4k only play in HD. This is true for both the play movies app and in the YouTube app (via purchases library in YouTube app).

YouTube is particularly bizarre as that plays 4k Hdr for free videos but is restricted to HD 1080 for purchased 4k content!

Hey @Tonycv51.

If the video that you have purchased is only 1080p then the video can only play in that quality. You would need to purchase the videos in 4K to actually play in 4K (not all videos are available in 4K just yet).

I do have some 4k purchases in play movies, but they don't play in 4k in both play movies app and YouTube app.

I gather the play movies app works for 4k in newer TV's and its not clear why the same changes are not available in pre 2017 tvs when all the other apps support 4k, including YouTube.  YouTube however only plays free content at 4k and bizarrely does not play my 4k google play purchased content in 4k, only HD 1080
