You know what it’s like. You’re winding down after a long day with a video on your Galaxy smartphone, maybe getting ready to fire up your favourite game, when, ping, you get a notification: ‘Update available.’ But that might take seconds, even minutes to install. ‘I’ll leave it for another day,’ you think.

We’ve all been there. Installing updates isn’t glamorous or fun and takes minutes out of your day that you could be using to enjoy your Galaxy device. But there are plenty of reasons to update your device as frequently as possible.

Get the latest features

When Samsung launches new features on Galaxy devices, it’s something to get excited about. From groundbreaking AI features to more customisation options, updates bring a whole load of cool new stuff to your phone. This could include improved camera settings, new productivity tools or even new settings for you to try.

Stay safe out there

But it’s not just features that updates bring; they also help keep your phone safe from external threats like malware and viruses. When you install updates, they bring security patches that fix little software flaws that could be used by hackers to steal your data.

Perfect performance

As well as bringing you all the latest features and keeping you safe, software updates are designed to just make your device work better in general. They help optimise the operating system, which in turn makes everything run smoother and faster. Updates also help your Galaxy device manage power better, which helps to keep your battery running longer.

Something’s bugging me…

Look, nobody’s flawless all the time, and although Galaxy devices are practically perfect 99.9% of the time, sometimes bugs happen. If you’re experiencing glitches on your smartphone or tablet, it’s always a good idea to check for a software update, as they often provide a solution to these sorts of problems.

Compatibility is key

Your Galaxy device isn’t the only thing that receives updates: your favourite apps get them too. The newest versions of apps tend to be more compatible with the newest versions of your device’s software. So, if you want to be on the cutting edge of what’s happening on your favourite apps, be sure to keep your device’s software up to date.

How to update your device

Now that you know how important it is to keep your software up to date, you’re probably wondering, ‘How can I do it?’. Luckily, it couldn’t be easier! Just head to Settings > Software update > Download and install. If there’s an update available, you’ll be able to download it here.

What are your favourite features of recent software updates? Let us know in the comments!

OK. We don't understand all this which you always say all the time, and excuse me... can you explain which kind of so-called update you're talking about? Is it this same One-UI 8 you've been busy bragging about for ages now, just to update the A16? I want to know🙏🔥

@Bigbopper yes they are, and ignoring them however you feel about data usage is just one of those important things we need to keep our phones running well, especially with other apps. And i agree 100% mate, infact in settings uploads of any kind will only be performed over WiFi. I don't game on my phone but will when a certain game comes out. So yes. My advice is to do it in settings, allow downloads and uploads only with WiFi. I've been cought before a few years back with a £43 bill just for memory uploads because then i didn't know you can do it in settings.

I do think Samsung should advertise the difference between the models more as I have always gone for the s series as I believed it was the top of the range phone for samsung and that the ultra was just the s with a bigger screen, then when I brought the s24 ultra I was so impressed and realised after years and years of being a samsung galaxy customer back from the 1st s series and ace and now I would never buy anything other than the ultra and felt so happy about it I also brought the s25 ultra as I heard that had got an even faster chip etc . I have and still use being a gamer that I play the same game on different accounts my s22+ and s20 and s10. I now finish paying for my s24 ultra in April and am seriously thinking about getting the s26 ultra although due to the price increase i have had to take my s25 ultra out over a 3 year contract instead of the 18 month to 2 year contracts i previously had and the 2 year was only due to the price of the s24 ultra as that cost me a month nearly as much a month as what i was paying for my s22 and s20 together, although as ive taken a 3 year on the s25 ultra if the difference isnt that much i may wait until the s27 ultra as I don't finish paying for my s25 ultra I had pre ordered so contract ends late January 2028 as i got it i believe early 2025 as it wasnt even on display in my providers shop so i pre ordered over the phone

Hi guys, I've accepted the one UI8 update twice now and each time each corrupted my Samsung A53 5G phone. I have no network now and doesn't recognize Sim. I thought it was a rare glitch first time and I even went and purchased a refurbished handset and started from scratch again. The update was forced upon me last night and now I've woken to the same issue. No network. I've rested network, I've cleared partition cache and obs turned on and off several times. Nothing worked and still no network showing. Phone is essentially redundant again. Absolutely furious and frustrated. Can you please help? Getting through to technical support is like pulling teeth. Thank you
