Just got a Tab S5e after watching numerous videos online of the DeX feature. These show USB-C to HDMI and USB-C docks working on the Tab S5e. Unfortunately its not working for me. I have tried 4x HDMI cables, directly from the tablet and via a USB-C dock out to a PC Monitor and few different TVs.
In all cases when plugging into the tablet the word 'Samsung' appears on the external display for 2-3 seconds and then stops, "HDMI Disconnected" appears on the screen (still connected) and a notification appears in the bar saying "Use genuine Samsung accessories for the best DeX experience".
All these displays/cables work with a USB-C laptop and Galaxy S10 but not the Tab S5e. Has Samsung locked this down to only Samsung cables? Or is it faulty? I've looked through all the settings and can't find anything I could be missing. DeX is definitely installed and enabled and works on the tablet. Got zero assistance from Samsung support.

Hi, i have a tab s4 and french langage so maybe you won't understand...You have to go in Parameters/Samsung DEX...you have to enable the function Automatic Start when HDMI is connected..this is the third line for me...Check this ...it is supposed to work automatically if you are in DEX mode. It works for me and I don't bought a Samsung cable...You don't have to pass via a dock, you just need to plug a cable USB-C to HDMI like this one (except if plugs are different in your country)

Turns out the tablet was faulty, got it replaced and works fine.
