IF you are not doing regular maintenance (clearing RAM, updating apps, checking for system updates etc) then yes you will have the issues you described.
It's not the fault of Samsung or a faulty tablet it's like a car if you don't take care of it performance will suffer.

It's about as powerful as an S6 lite so it's not THAT bad

LMAO! All tablets other than iPads have some sort of lag after a few weeks. You simply bought a Samsung thinking it would be perfect because it's a big name brand.

Sept 2023 purchased the Tab 8 at Costco AND ITS GOING BACK.
Absolute pre-2005 speed and reliability.
Poor wifi connection strength constantly either disconnects from wifi or is dirt slow.
Speedtest compared to my Samsung S20 FE phone are opposite.
This thing IS ***** and going back today

Same unfortunately. Given the good user experience ive had with their phones over the years, i decided to get 2 of the Tab A8s a few yrs ago, for my own use as well as the kids. The cpu lag is shockingly bad, and i wish i did a bit more research or even had a hands on exp before purchasing.
Ive streamlined my apps, deleted bloatware, disabled unused apps, and i have the ram memory clear widget which i use regularly. However it still requires the patience of a saint. I wish they could fix it with an update.
The screens and speakers are nice for streaming and thats it imho.

I had a chance to test the signal rx strength I did the test with my note 20 ultra (android 11 firmware) and I must say that the tab A8 (LTE version) with android 13 seems slightly better (although when the signal is not strong it is very slow so it is only better for the connection) I think it is maybe a reception limitation in something (maybe the tab A8 LTE connects better than the signal that has some frequencies? And if so, how do I unblock this limitation?) Also, I've noticed that it doesn't connect straight away, but to do so (if the signal is weak), if I go to settings/connections/wifi...magic!!! it connects straight away, that's for weak signals) For the slowness, too bad 😕
