I can't get into my Galaxy Tab A

Hi, my tablet seems to be in voice assistant mode (Talkback ?) somehow. Now the screen says to use two fingers to swipe up, which it didn't before, but when I enter the PIN the screen just goes blank and I get the voice msg "pin unlocked, screen turned off , ring or mute lock screen".

I've tried going into 'Safe Mode' but that hasn't helped.

Does anyone know what's going on ? Have I somehow picked up some malware ? How do I get out of this ? Any advice is greatly appreciated. (I'm fed up of hearing the voice !) Thanks.

I actually managed to eventually get into the tablet myself later that night after hours of pressing buttons every which way and everything appears to be back to normal.

(Having accidentally caused 'the problem' without knowing it, my wife no longer trusts herself with the tablet and says she is not going to use it again !)
