Galaxy Tab S3 - charging issue

Hi community,

i have a weird problem with my Tab S3. Using the original charger and cable (USB C) the device will not charge anymore. When swithed off and connected to the charger it vibrates, displays the circle with the charging arrow but does not start to charge (showing charging %). Display goes off and same repeats in 10 sec intervals. Not charging also if the tablet is turned on. Same when connected to the computer. The computer also reports some issues recognizing the tablet.

I did not do any soft/hard reset.

I have already tried the same with another cables, another chargers (original with 2A charge, also slower ones and connected to a PC)  in all combinations. The same cables/chargers work normaly with a Galaxy phone, but none with the tablet.

Tried out also all charging combinations in the settings (Fast cable charging / Protect battery) - no change.

The good thing is I could charge the tablet normally with the USB-C charger (30W, 5V 2A) from my computer (DELL) and form the computers docking station. Tried 2 different chargers worked with all of them (unfortuntelly they are not mine).

So I'm completely puzzled... Any hint?

Thanks, Primoz

It's really annoying and i do not have any idea anymore - just to hope my Dell charger will work.

As mentioned in the other post I tried a new charger + new fast charge cable today -- still all the same.

The charging curents are

- with the device off - when it beeps/vibrates - it pulls ca 1,5A at 5,1V then it drops to 0,5A and lowers down to 0,1A later -- so no chance to charge fully.

- when on - same as above, also measured with Ampere the charging is not positive -- when screen is on using from -0,3 up to -1,1A

There are some other post talking with fast chargin issues - might be related. Even mentioning a hardware problem (might not for the 10" S3 - didn't read so in detail)

This is a common problem in Samsung tablets: cracked battery connector.

I have similar problem, tablet S3 would not charge at all when it's ON. When it's switch OFF, it's charge in pulse drawing current at 0, 0.5, then 1.5 A the tablet vibrate every 10 sec. I tried using an old samsung charger (for old tablet note 😎 which is not an Adaptive Fast charging type. The tablet could change fast (draw current stable around 1.7 A) while the tablet is OFF.

Solved this. Had to do with USB OTG cable.

Been charging with the 30w laptop usb charger for the last few days.

Today I plugged my OTG cable back into read a flash drive. After accessing flash drive, and disconnecting OTG. Normal charger and accessing device from laptop with standard USB-c cable started working again. Think some issue with locking port in that OTG mode. Strange that resets didnt clear it.

Apparently also having it plugged into PC and ushing power down +  vol down for a few minutes may also force reset and possibly fix it.

Mine is working great again as normal.

Worked for me.. Thanks a lot.. :smiling-face:

Thanks for all the info folks. I was starting to panic. My tablet was doing the very same thing as everyone else and I remembered, I did plug in an adaptor cable a few days ago to transfer some files onto a memory stick and thats about when it all started happening. I plugged the adaptor cable back into the tablet again and accessed the memory stick again, backed out of the files and unplugged the memory stick then the adaptor cable. Plugged back in its regular charger and all is good now, thank goodness, I like my tablet.

Same thing happened to mine, wouldn't charge with any charger.

Left it for about 2 months and planned to send it away. Tried again yesterday and it worked as normal with a Samsung fast charger.

My best guess is that the battery needed to be 100% flat to remember how to charge again. (I dont know if there's a BIOS battery on the motherboard maybe that needed to go flat too?)

Works great now

I read a post in Samsung Members saying the issue has to do the "device care" app but have tried different ways to uninstall or remove permissions but I dont have permission to do this.

Hi BtBAU ,

thanks for this tip -- worked for me as well. I have left the tablet for even longer - ca 4-5 mths. Today I switched to the charger again and YYYEEESSSS - it charged with the standard cable&charger. Hope it will work for long...

Glad it worked for you ! One thing is for certain, I'll never use a USBC to USB adaptor to plug in a mouse or anything again because I'm pretty sure that's what causes this bug. Have since bought a Bluetooth mouse instead .
