It is likely using an adaptive refresh rate. The later phones and tablets all use it, to save on battery.

So for video and high demanding needs the refresh rate can be up to 90 / 120 fps when needed... but when idle the phone drops down to a few fps as it isnt needed to refresh multiple times a second.

If the display setting for.motion smoothness is set to standard then I believe it may not adjust in an adaptive way... and may stay fixed at 60Hz.

P.s. what app are you using to monitor your refresh rate ? 1744985395652.jpg

I believe inactivity causes this, a built-in feature to help improve battery life. If you're not touching the screen, then in games, it doesn't need the extra frames as youre not moving

Why would the FPS matter if you're idle and not moving (AFK)?

If you don't have adaptive frame rate, then I don't believe you can.

That doesn't make much sense. FPS is just how fast pixels refresh; it doesn't interact with the tick speed of countdowns....so this doesnt quite make sense
