i simply want to use an external mic on a new samsung tab A, whilst being able to charge the tablet at the same time. but seems its very hard to achieve. the headphone jack is output only, sadly.

if i plug a usb c to 3.5mm jack adapter in, mic works fine.
i purchased one of these, but this doesnt work.

ok thanks
the tablet is being built into a case to be used as a video pod, so it needs an external mic only. as the one built into the tablet will be covered up.
so im assuming there is no adapter that i could purchase to do the job?

still having nothing but issues.
if i plug this directly into the usb c port on the tablet it still doesnt work.
got a usb c to 3.5mm head phone jack.
this is proving to be nothing other than painful.
can anyone recommend any external mic that works with the tab a7?

there is no ability for this tab a to use an external microhone, even one attached to a headset; the device will only be able to use the internal microphone regardless what device you attempt to hook up to it. yet more evidence that those who buy the Tab A are being ill advised.

Open Camera. Try downloading that and using that platform instead. I've set up an external lav mic using the mini connection. Sometimes I need to do it in a pinch when I have to quickly record a guest and I don't want to trust bluetooth. It works well and I've had quite a few successes.
