Samsung Pay Watch Plugin stopped working on non-Samsung phone

I purchased a Galaxy Watch 4 last year specific to use Samsung Pay on the watch with my Google Pixel 7 Pro. This was working through the Galaxy Wearables app and Samsung Pay Watch Plugin app. After the recent, One UI 5.0 update, the Samsung Pay Watch Plugin app no longer works when I tap Samsung Pay in the Galaxy Wearables app. The app throws an error: Check the Bluetooth connection and your phone.

This means that I cannot use Samsung Pay to add/remove cards on my Galaxy Watch with my non-Samsung phone.

According to Samsung Support, only Samsung Phones can install the Samsung Wallet app which is required to make Samsung Pay work on both phones and watches. However, this is contradictory to the description of the official Samsung Pay Watch Plugin app on the Play Store which states that even non-Samsung phones can use the app.

I hope this is a genuine error and not a conscious decision from Samsung to retrospectively shut out owners of Galaxy Watches from using Samsung Pay with non-Samsung phones.

Hello @AngstSam have you tried to unpair it from the phone and do a factory reset on the watch?

Hi @AngstSam

You should still be able to use Samsung Pay (Watch plug-in) with a non-samsung phone. Why this does not work for you we need to investigate further. I have sent you a private message with instructions on what you need to do in order for us to investigate this.

It's a cumbersome effort to unpair and re-pair the watch. I'm guessing this is an issue with the Samsung Pay Watch Plugin companion app on the phone instead of the watch.

This is the error displayed on my phone when I go to Galaxy Wearable->Watch Settings->PayScreenshot_20230927-162503_1000001123_1695824946.png

I am encountering the same issue. I still have an S3 frontier that worked flawlessly with my 6 pro. I upgraded to a 7 pro but am now getting a Bluetooth connection error but it is definitely connected. I have jumped through all the unpairing, uninstall, reset, pair hoops. Any help would be appreciated
