Look at mid range phone's and tablets and for options with parental settings.

Also look at screen protectors and good case's to protect them from accidental bumps and drops.

Just about any tablet will work for sure. All our tablets are durable, but as @BandOfBrothers says, finding a case and screen protector is a good idea. 

Any tablet that runs Android Marshmallow (6.0) onwards has Kids Home, which you can check out here. You can monitor screen time, set play time limits, control permissions and add apps from Galaxy Apps for Kids.
