Sure we will all have heard about the NHSX Contact Tracing App currently being trialled on the Isle of Wight, if proves effective expected to roll out nationally in due course.
The app will use Bluetooth Low Energy which will keep track of Handsets and relay Data. The App will be able to determine when a user experiencing symptoms has come into significant contact with other people using the app and therefore build a Traceable Map. It will rely on self reporting on an anonymous basis, users though will need to enter the first part of their Postcode. The system is voluntary but reports have suggested it will require a take up rate of around 60% to be effective.
Other European countries have similar approaches but most are using a decentralised system where the Data is only shared on the handsets, whereas in the UK and France for instance are using a centralised approach where all the Data ends up on a centralised server for processing. The NHS can get more information on how the disease is spreading if users share location Data, however there are greater privacy risks and they will not be using the technology developed by Google/Apple. https://www.pocket-lint.com/apps/news/151988-nhs-contact-tracing-app-wont-use-apple-google-solution
I do have some concerns but think it is beneficial to have contact tracing assisted by technology, in addition to other methods. I think it is likely that I will be using the app, though everyone of course can draw their own conclusions. I will post two articles here giving somewhat different prospectives on the Technology.

Ireland to launch their contact tracing app shortly, subject to approval (will work with Uk mobile numbers) and police test was positive but issues on commuter bus with App based on Google-Apple API . Though research questioning if it was the time to roll out.
A far as the Uk app which was pulled appears the problem may not conveyed correctly, apparently user was informed the calamitous 4% iphone rate 4% only referred to cases where the app was asleep in the background.

Just to point out that Contact Tracing apps are thus far only available in Northern Ireland in the UK, however the apps will be available in Google Play and the Apple store when available. The Irish system is live for any members there https://covidtracker.gov.ie/ Information on Northern Ireland here : https://www.publichealth.hscni.net/covid-19-coronavirus/testing-and-tracing-covid-19/stopcovid-ni
As far as The NHS England contact tracing app is concerned , another pilot has got underway but have not heard anything further. https://www.wired.co.uk/article/nhs-covid-19-tracking-app-contact-tracing https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-53765240
Scotland and Wales will be basing their apps on the Irish system. https://www.governmentcomputing.com/applications/news/scotland-covid-19-contract-tracing-app

Scotland's corona virus app went live yesterday 10 September, I have downloaded it myself. It does require at least Android 6.0 and ios13 mind you so some older handsets will be incompatible. News that the app for England/Wales will go live 24 September (they decided joint app made sense) and word on that one is that users will be able to scan QR codes for each business as long as they are wiling to facilitate this. At the moment do not have word on compatibility for this one but imagine it will be similar. Visitors will need the appropriate app.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/Tech https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/11/nhs-coronavirus-app-launch-england-wales-24-september

The Covid-19 app for England/Wales is now live , compatible devices must have at least Android Marshmallow, or iOS 13.5

However some feel take up will be less than ideally required due to trust issues on handling the crisis. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/21/covid-coronavirus-contact-tracing-app-hampered-lack-tr...
