When I bought my Samsung phone, one reason was that it have had the bootloader unlock feature, as I want to be able to extend the life of the phone after Samsungs software support has come to an EOL, but with the oneui8 this will be removed and we users lost our freedom, a highend phone now is a midrange device. How will we be compensated from loosing our freedom to run another OS in the future?
For me the oneui8 update will be like I have lost my ownership of the device, now I borrow it for loads of money from Samsung and in some years all I can do with it is just throw it in a landfill.

My next phone will not be a Samsung, sure you loosing the sales of a handful devices will not make you to change your stupid selfish decision, but I hope more people will follow so it will hurt you.

Samsung no Jolla or Fairphone, so don't expect anything positive from them

Right now it is not 100% clear if this OEM lock will be locked permanently for everyone in OneUi 8. It could be that if you bought the phone off a carrier under a SIM Lock or contract then OEM unlock is greyed out until contract is ended.

Since it seems to be happening anyway for some in US with google pixel etc.

You unfortunately have the same thing with Xiaomi phones with a locked bootloader. But Xiaomi sometimes kindly lets you unlock the bootloader after some intence mailing back and forth. My belief its the same with Samsung. Ordinary lifespan of your device is usually around 5 years anyway. And its clearly undated at that point. So i understand it a bit. And by recycling your phone they can make new ones and not waste resources. Samsung also kindly give us about 5-6 years of updates anyway and that is really generous. Motorola usually gives 1 or if you are lucky 2 years of updates and they are also not regular. Both Samsung and Pixel are generous at that part

I had my S6 for quite many years after Samsung stopped to support it thanks to be able to use AOSP image, the hardware last usually far longer than the software support. Of corse, not what the majority will do it.
Sadly with locked in we have no freedom at all, it's like buying a shovel and not be allowed to dig.

Me to i had a couple of old exentric phones i kept for many years. But nowadays im renewing every 3rd year. Just bought me the new Samsung S25 a xiaomi 15 ultra and a oneplus 13. For reviews and daily drivers. I still kept my S23 for comparison when the one ui 8 finally lands to the S23 to. Its awesome on my S25

I tend to use my phones as long as the hardware last or when those day to day apps gets so heavy that the cpu can't handle it. It's time for me to replace my old nexus tab, won't be a Samsung as they don't have a product of the right size and performance and now the risk of locking out from custom firmware... may get back to sailfishos.

Sailfish os is only supported for next year to. Since development has left the company and poorly founded. My recommendation is a linux os instead like penguin os or a Google os replacement. But still android phones gets more and more lagging by each year after year 3. I usually change phones within a 3 year period. Sins batteries also degrade after time

That suxx, just when seen the sale of C2 phone and noticed the forums don't seems to work today. The irc channel is still more active than the maemo and jollamobile channel.

Miss the old days when there was quite a lot operating systems, sure they were more or less just closed source, which not that nice when developers shut down or makes a bad decision
