Thought I would start this thread on AI,  there is an upcoming Microsoft Event Future Decoded which will explore some of the fields and interesting questions arsing -31 October to 1 November which will be streamed live if interested  in any of it  More details here https://www.futuredecoded.com/content/live  Information from the 2017 event also available https://news.microsoft.com/en-gb/2017/10/31/future-decoded-2017, also short video Decoded 2017 Highlights

I'll also include work Samsung has been doing in this area  with some details from the AI forum in September https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-ai-forum-offers-a-roadmap-for-the-future-of-ai   https://research.samsung.com/artificial-intelligence

With regard to the latest recent  developments would say areas that have most caught my attention are Virtual Agents,   Automated Hardware, Optimised  Hardware, Biometrics (which can creat emore natural interactions between touch, speech  and body reactions)  Robotic processes,  Digital Twin Modelling, Cyber Defences, Empowering Workers (despite risks in some area of undoubted benefit in medical and legal circles). Undoubtably potential benefits which will assist us all in daily life.  some more detail https://blog.adext.com/en/artificial-intelligence-technologies-2018 Much scope with  Content Creation (for instance one tool Wibbitz can quickly create content from written documentation).   Emotion Recognition is certainly an interesting concept  which can have application in the entertainment and business arenas. We are all familiar with voice recognition but continually advancing.   Detail of 14 applications, some will be more familiar than others.  https://blog.adext.com/en/applications-of-artificial-intelligence

An interesting article here  with arguments around fearing or embracing the increased use of AI.   There are those who believe the technology could become too powerful without  safeguards and regulation.  Advocates argue that the technology enables us to live more fulfilling lives and offers great advances in the field of medicine for instance.  The point is also made that there have always been sceptics with  any kind of technology and  the risks have  often been overplayed.    Of course some will not be firmly in either camp as the argument can be more nuanced and I think it possible to experience significant benefits from AI  whilst being aware of the pitfalls and fully considering the ethics.  Throughout the world though approaches will differ and we will see  positive and negative examples.

There is an app  Hyfe  which can track users Coughing habits and  there is a diagnostics tool to help users identify underlying illnesses and even help curb the spread of coronavirus.  Only recently heard about this and not sure how effective it would be, some  have talked about privacy concerns.   https://www.hyfeapp.com/    https://pharmaphorum.com/news/covid-cough-app-hyfe-launches-in-uk-and-ireland/

one of main benefits of course is in enhancing automation and enabling  employees to concentrate on other skill sets, though some roles will be displaced .  The  technology is also readily available, see more examples here:https://interestingengineering.com/7-ways-ai-will-help-humanity-not-harm-it

On the other  hand a  recent Panorama focused on  how the rise of the technology  (whilst bringing big gains)   could create  an armed race between  China and the US and that regulation would be urgently need to stop  things getting out of control.   China has vowed to become an AI superpower by 2030.

This one from a little while ago but worth sharing here even though some members  may well have heard about it.  AI could be used to detect dementia at an early stage  which would obviously be of great benefit. Still in the development stage with trials expected in clinical environments. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/aug/10/artificial-intelligence-could-be-used-to-diagnose-de...
