Thought I would start this thread on AI, there is an upcoming Microsoft Event Future Decoded which will explore some of the fields and interesting questions arsing -31 October to 1 November which will be streamed live if interested in any of it More details here https://www.futuredecoded.com/content/live Information from the 2017 event also available https://news.microsoft.com/en-gb/2017/10/31/future-decoded-2017, also short video Decoded 2017 Highlights
I'll also include work Samsung has been doing in this area with some details from the AI forum in September https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-ai-forum-offers-a-roadmap-for-the-future-of-ai https://research.samsung.com/artificial-intelligence
With regard to the latest recent developments would say areas that have most caught my attention are Virtual Agents, Automated Hardware, Optimised Hardware, Biometrics (which can creat emore natural interactions between touch, speech and body reactions) Robotic processes, Digital Twin Modelling, Cyber Defences, Empowering Workers (despite risks in some area of undoubted benefit in medical and legal circles). Undoubtably potential benefits which will assist us all in daily life. some more detail https://blog.adext.com/en/artificial-intelligence-technologies-2018 Much scope with Content Creation (for instance one tool Wibbitz can quickly create content from written documentation). Emotion Recognition is certainly an interesting concept which can have application in the entertainment and business arenas. We are all familiar with voice recognition but continually advancing. Detail of 14 applications, some will be more familiar than others. https://blog.adext.com/en/applications-of-artificial-intelligence

@CarloL It certainly is interesting to see where all the AI tools will take us, in the field of medicine this development sounds very positive. Some may have a sceptism of the technology but I see it as making medical practioners more efficient, we will always need their expertise.
The more information we have the better and specialised apps would enable us to manage our health more effectively.

This one from a little while ago but certainly could be an innovation , a wearable device that enables the user to silently give voice commands. With this prototype information could be relayed to a variety of smart devices throughout the home , phrases could be translated into different languages and you would be to do complex calculations in your head with the AI. However an amazing application of the "Alterego" would be help people with neurodegenerative diseases. Information could possibly be recorded and accessed at a later date and memory ***** would also be created with this system. Video with Arnav Kapur is also on Youtube.

US Researchers have made a major breakthrough in machine learning by using light instead of electricity to perform calculations. The team discovered that their photon-based TPU (tensor processing unit) was able to perform 2-3 times the magnitude an electric TPU.https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/ai-machine-learning-light-speed-artif...

Interesting article on Samsung's Technolgical development plans for the future. There will be increased use of software on a general purpose server which shall then only require updates. We shall live in an increasingly connected world and latency (one complaint) should be less of an issue.
Obviously the use of AI will be expanded . Whilst it becomes more complex the idea is that base stations can be operated automatically and adapt to changing environments. AI will be embedded across all system components in 6G
Networks and communication will this be more advanced and intelligent.

Some of you may have heard of Elon Musk's live event where he showed off a big with implant insertred into its brain , the device is removable. He founded Nuralink in 2016 with the aim of creating a wireless Brain machine which could cure neurological conditions. Musk also has a desire for humans to compete with Artifiial Intelligence, however he has made a numbe of bold claims without providing scientific evidence and has been one of those responsible for what can only be described as spreading false information on Covid-19.
Neiroscientists have conducted Brain Implant studies with a smallnumber of people who have lost control of bodily functions but thus far limited to controlling robotic limbs and controlling computer keyboard and the like. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2020/aug/28/neuralink-elon-musk-pig-computer-implant

Interesting report lately where an an AI system soundly beat a skilled District of Columbia Air National Guard pilot n a series of 5 dogfights in a simulated model. https://digit.fyi/ai-pilot-defeats-human-in-darpa-fighter-combat-simulation/
However an automated system will not be completely taking over any time soon. The pilot took time to set up the shot with a high kill probability ,whilst the Heron AI went for any shot it could conceivably take and was thus faster. However some of the shots would not be "hits" in real life. Nonetheless AI weapons systems are free from physical imitations. In the duels though The AI had perfect intelligence as it knew everything about the opponent and engagement, therefore how does the AI deal with air combat when it does have this advantage?
