Thought I would start this thread on AI,  there is an upcoming Microsoft Event Future Decoded which will explore some of the fields and interesting questions arsing -31 October to 1 November which will be streamed live if interested  in any of it  More details here https://www.futuredecoded.com/content/live  Information from the 2017 event also available https://news.microsoft.com/en-gb/2017/10/31/future-decoded-2017, also short video Decoded 2017 Highlights

I'll also include work Samsung has been doing in this area  with some details from the AI forum in September https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-ai-forum-offers-a-roadmap-for-the-future-of-ai   https://research.samsung.com/artificial-intelligence

With regard to the latest recent  developments would say areas that have most caught my attention are Virtual Agents,   Automated Hardware, Optimised  Hardware, Biometrics (which can creat emore natural interactions between touch, speech  and body reactions)  Robotic processes,  Digital Twin Modelling, Cyber Defences, Empowering Workers (despite risks in some area of undoubted benefit in medical and legal circles). Undoubtably potential benefits which will assist us all in daily life.  some more detail https://blog.adext.com/en/artificial-intelligence-technologies-2018 Much scope with  Content Creation (for instance one tool Wibbitz can quickly create content from written documentation).   Emotion Recognition is certainly an interesting concept  which can have application in the entertainment and business arenas. We are all familiar with voice recognition but continually advancing.   Detail of 14 applications, some will be more familiar than others.  https://blog.adext.com/en/applications-of-artificial-intelligence

Very positives examples of AI here, ranging from  improving life for the disabled, combating climate change via technology, combating world hunger by increasing food production with advanced tools, identifying Human Rights violations, detecting illness earlier  and dealing with Fake News.

Good aticle below  on everyday uses of AI and machine learning, one simple example of this is the Smart Reply to emails  which will be a bit advanced in the future, aiding productivity, some personalised  learning will be easier to facilitate with the technology.  Financial Transactions and Minimising Fraud using AI being  very much a feature and will be an area of expansion.   Some advanced examples here (many will be familar with Iron Man :smiling-face:https://www.instructables.com/id/Build-Your-Own-AI-Artificial-Intelligence-Assistant Filters using the technology utilised on Social Media  and Smart Digital Asistants have been very much to the fore for a while, though much scope for enhancements.

Amazon has put a one year ban on U.S police using its facial recognition software Rekognition, though as of last summer only two departments were using it and called for greater regulation.  Though  the  international Center for Missing and Exploited Children, as well as technology companies Thorn and Marinus Analytics, will still have access to it in connection with child trafficking. There have been concerns over racial bias and of course this decision comes in the aftermath of the "Black Lives Matters" protests, following the death of George Floyd at the hands of the police.

However Clearview AI is the much more widely used system , though their Ceo says:   "While Amazon, Google, and IBM have decided to exit the marketplace, Clearview AI believes in the mission of responsibly used facial recognition to protect children, victims of financial fraud and other crimes that afflict our communities,” he said. Ton-That says Clearview’s technology “actually works,” but that facial recognition is “not intended to be used as a surveillance tool relating to protests or under any other circumstances.”    https://www.theverge.com/2020/6/10/21287101/amazon-rekognition-facial-recognition-police-ban-one-yea...

Amazing stuff, @JAMES4578. I can't wait to see what we will have in 5-10 years time, especially in the medical field. Important to remind people of the benefits, as unfortunately we see a lot of outlandish conspiracy theories regarding adaptation of new technology.

Here's some more details if any are interested: https://www.news-medical.net/news/20200610/Unique-partnership-aims-to-accelerate-the-adoption-of-AI-...

@SaudA Yes some of the technology is breathtaking and will ehhance our lives ,certainly developments in the medical field should be far reaching.  Certainly many benfits as well as some drawbacks.  of course in some fields the ethics  are not straigtforward.

Bit of a buzz on the Internet about GPT-3 which is the latest and most powerfull Open AI language model, however whilst could be a very beneficial  development some fanatics have hyped it up a bit too much.

The language with the right input can be creative and generate functioning code, basically it is a sphisticated text predictor  and when user inputs text the model will generate the next body of text based on linguistic patterns .  However  it does not really understand the input/output and lacks the ability to reason.

This is very interesting and it does sound like a medical breakthrough. I see the future of phones with lots of specialised apps that can help us identify medical conditions straight away with scanners and guide us on what to do next. It would save lives and make the work of our doctors and of the health system overall much easier.
