Thought I would start this thread on AI, there is an upcoming Microsoft Event Future Decoded which will explore some of the fields and interesting questions arsing -31 October to 1 November which will be streamed live if interested in any of it More details here https://www.futuredecoded.com/content/live Information from the 2017 event also available https://news.microsoft.com/en-gb/2017/10/31/future-decoded-2017, also short video Decoded 2017 Highlights
I'll also include work Samsung has been doing in this area with some details from the AI forum in September https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-ai-forum-offers-a-roadmap-for-the-future-of-ai https://research.samsung.com/artificial-intelligence
With regard to the latest recent developments would say areas that have most caught my attention are Virtual Agents, Automated Hardware, Optimised Hardware, Biometrics (which can creat emore natural interactions between touch, speech and body reactions) Robotic processes, Digital Twin Modelling, Cyber Defences, Empowering Workers (despite risks in some area of undoubted benefit in medical and legal circles). Undoubtably potential benefits which will assist us all in daily life. some more detail https://blog.adext.com/en/artificial-intelligence-technologies-2018 Much scope with Content Creation (for instance one tool Wibbitz can quickly create content from written documentation). Emotion Recognition is certainly an interesting concept which can have application in the entertainment and business arenas. We are all familiar with voice recognition but continually advancing. Detail of 14 applications, some will be more familiar than others. https://blog.adext.com/en/applications-of-artificial-intelligence

Samsung LoungeA few articles on Microchip technology plus Cyborg Advances, looking at the Benefits and Pitfalls. We often hear competing claims of an amazing future world versus nightmarish or apocalyptic ones. The reality may be that whilst it can offer great opportunities there are risks and we need apppropriate safeguards to ensure the technology is our servant rather than master in the years ahead.

Medical practioners could easily access health details which would be an undoubted benefit in crucial situations but there are privacy and security implications. Possibility for instance that employers could track activity away from the office, Coercion would be a bad thing as should be an opt in once individuals have considered the implications and we do need a lot more information. Must be said though that in the future could well be disadvantages for those not embracing the technology. Enhancing the power of the brain would obviously be advantageous but the danger of the unscrupulous being able to decode thoughts. However in the future could well be disadvantages for those not embracing the technology.

I watched that in person.
Food smelt great, but sadly I wasn't one of the invitees to the meal there. And I'll admit: I kinda wanted Bot-Chef to go all crazy "Swedish Chef" lol.

Samsung LoungeYou may have seen it reported that according to a study AI cam be better than Doctors in reading Breast Cancer scans. However should point out that the systems are not better than the input of 2 radiologists which is common practice in Europe. https://www.newscientist.com/article/2228752-ai-system-is-better-than-human-doctors-at-predicting-br...
There was another report last year that suggested could detect some childhood illnesses with more accuracy than comventional practioners . https://www.newscientist.com/article/2193361-ai-can-diagnose-childhood-illnesses-better-than-some-do...
Nonetheless whilst AI will certainly be a major tool going forward will surely complement rather than replace conventional medicine. There does remain some sceptism amaong the public and the benefits need to be explained clearly.
This article goes over some of the factors :

Samsung LoungeApparently machine learning can measure success in film industry but only as an additional tool by tweaking elements, AI not effective in the creative sense. Whilst formulistic approaches sometimes risktaking achieves dividends and fans may like it when thinking is outside of The Box.

It's a fun tool, and it appears to give some insight into possible directions, as well as a nifty quick calculator of decision risk.
But I've got friends in the creative industries who'd agree with this:
"Because machine learning applications are trained on historical data they tend to be conservative, focusing on patterns that led to past successes rather than predicting what will excite future audiences. Scientific studies also suggest algorithms only produce limited predictive gains, often repeating obvious insights (like “Scarlett Johansson is a bankable film star”) that can be discovered without AI."
I can envision a situation where budding actors, directors and writers (and all the other folks who contribute creatively of course!) struggle even more to get a break because studio execs and producers etc. slavishly follow an algorithm; essentially, the AI tool contributing heavily to a positive feedback loop that increasingly restricts opportunity and creativity.
One of the general concerns about AI is the potential bias inherent in the data used by it - and this would be one example of that.

Samsung LoungeByron Auguste article in Wired today: https://www.wired.co.uk/article/robots-human-jobs, where he argues that it's up to us to decide and set the conditions of whether robots/AI are here to take our jobs or help us in them (i.e. automation versus augmentation).

Samsung Lounge@AntS Interesting article, whilst there may be legitimite concerns we can set the parameters so that AI is largely a positive tool.

Samsung LoungeI've come across this intriguing Guardian Article on Frog Bots. Whilst still in early stages envisaged that in the future their influence could be far reaching . Birrth defects, cancer, age-related diseases for instance could be solved if we fundamental control over growth and form. Nonetheless going forward there will be ethical issues.

Samsung LoungeHaving seen an older article in the French community with DJ Koh quoted as saying:
"The last ten years were the era of the smartphone. From this year, a new era may be opening due to the emergence of the Internet of Things, 5G, AI and all of these technologies that mix. The new era is before us "
The take up of foldable devices envisaged to lead to more widespread use of wareable devices and new high tech technology with a completely different form factor. monwindows.com/blog/samsung-Future of smart Phones
I have looked into this further and devices could make greater use of AI and AR Technology and with the possibility that at some point we would be able to communicate thoughts directly to machines, even if some of the ideas may seem a bit far fetched in the near future. A few articles here:
