why can't I disable edge lighting for when the screen is on?

The new settings for edge lighting have already been hidden away which is annoying but now I can't disable the edge lighting for when the screen is turned on? I only want the edge lighting for when the screen is off. That's the way I had it setup in one ui 1 and 2. The only option is to disable it when screen is off. Why would I need the edge to light up when I'm using the phone when I can see the notification anyway?

I'll forward this as a suggestion to our Development Team asking for the option to enable the Edge Lighting feature only when the screen is turned off .

I'm glad you mentioned this.
I've noticed the same problem today/this week.

I only want the edge notification lighting to turn on when my screen if off, not when I'm using the screen. Super annoying

it absolutely makes no sense to me as well getting edge light while using the phone anyway.
