Hi there!

I am really sorry but I do not speak dutch hopefully english will be ok with you. While I was looking at my data usage I noticed an entry called "removed apps" as far as my knowledge goes that entry reffers to apps that were previously installed on my phone used data and then got uninstalled since those apps no longer exist the data used by them is added to the entry in question. The strange thing is the fact that this data is used in background not foreground and it is a pretty big amount 6GB to be exact on the bright side it is wi-fi usage NOT mobile data usage so no extra costs occurred. The situation is very confusing, you might think that this is a sign of malware acting on my phone but strangely enough there are no signs of malicious activity(my phone does not overheat the battery does not drain faster then usual, the phone is not slower, apps work perfectly fine etc.)You would expect that this considerable amount of data would affect my phone in someway plus if someone would download that much data it would do something with it I mean there are no compromised accounts,no strange emails or phone calls nothing that indicates malicious activity either.I do not know what to think anymore.I will try to add a screenshot that hopefully will help clarify the problem.

P.S:I am really sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but I am very new to this community if that is the case please direct me to the right section to post my issue.Help is much appreciated I will be waiting for your response!

I did a little test on mine. i removed HBO MAX. An app that used data and didn't use it in the background. And guess what, when i check the uninstalled apps it says all data was used in the background.

I guess because the phone doesn't have the data and settings from the app anymore  it **bleep** all the internetusage to "the background".

So that means there is nothing to worry about!

English is no problem.

Removed apps are indeed removed apps. The thing is that this could also be more than 1 app.
Did you remove a few apps in the time period of 29 dec -26 jan?

Try to think about which app(s) this could have been and what would be a logic amount of GB usage.

I rarely uninstall apps I do not use that many to begin with what makes it even weirder is the fact that it used to be higher yesterday now it is lower it just doesn't make sense no matter how I think about it.I think it is worth mentioning that I use a VPN also I will try to provide screenshot that shows what I mentioned earlier(that it used to be higher before). Please let me know if you need more information or screenshot please let me know. Thanks for your support so far I will be waiting for your response.

Hello,

I dont see a problem here. Its just data from removed apps. In this example I have over 10GB👍Screenshot_20230126_191003_Settings_1000085110_1674756604.png

Hi,

Interesting but maybe you installed and uninstalled more apps than me as I said I do that very rarely although it doesn't explain why the data is used in background and not foreground and why the data usage decreased(see my post above yours). Thanks a lot though for your support.

Thanks a lot for clearing this up it means a lot.I also talked about this with samsung support via whatsapp and they couldn't provide a proper answer,by the way do you know if samsung support via whatsapp is safe?I accessed it using this web adress: https://www.samsung.com/nl/welcome/?provider=t-mobile

Thanks again and waiting for your response!

P.S:That is basically just the homepage of the Google Chrome browser it always been since I had this phone.I assume it is safe I just never heard of tech support via whatsapp and I want a second opinion

Talking with samsung via whatsapp is safe. The people with whom you can speak there unfortunately do not always know as much about the technical things of the devices (sometimes they do). So that's also one of the reasons why the community was created.
