The icon is the Samsung push service. It provides the notifications service for various Samsung apps.

You should be able to find something Samsung related when you pull down the notification tray.

It's not a regular icon I've seen before on my Samsung phones. .

This would lead me to believe it's to show that there's an app running maybe. 

Can you look at your current apps / services that are running and close them down one at a time until it goes which would then indicate what it's connected to.

It is the Samsung push service - check in your system apps, it will be there... I've seen that before a few times. They sometimes use it for marketing purposes.Proof...
