Software update

My a53 phone updated yesterday and now I can't unlock it. 
I think it was Bixby/UI. I've never used them. I have completely lost touch screen ability. It wants me to unlock sim. This has never been a problem, but now it doesn't register screen touch. When I press side button and volume down together I get power off/restart/sos screen and at the bottom it says side button settings. I have managed to restart several times, even power off and start up, not sure how, but now won't do that either.
I don't know what side button settings are or how to use them, but I am guessing this has taken over my phone.
Can anyone help me please?

Bixby is not a problem creator, it may be software issue.

Contact Samsung Support via your Samsung Members App under feedback or call Samsung Support for your area and they'll advise @CountryGirl 

You may need to send the phone to Samsung and or visit a Samsung Repair Centre.

This link contains possible help however this may also delete all your stored data much like a factory reset does. 

To add the issue may not be the software update but instead an internal software crash or hardware issue.
