I feel your frustration. Since the Oreo update, my Smart Lock is hit and miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But before the Oreo update it worked flawlessly and kept my phone continuously unlocked when I was in a trusted location.
Very annoying and I wish Samsung would address the issue.
