Samsung s8+ warranty

Hi I am about to buy an s8+ via eBay which is still sealed. However the owner does not have proof of purchase.

 

My question is if I ever needed to make a claim via the Samsung warranty would I need proof of purchase or does not matter. 

 

Any answer asap would be great

All Samsung needs is the IMEI number for warranty proof because that'll determine when the phone was originally sold to make sure it's still within warranty cover, so no proof of purchase isn't required. 

 

However if you ever make an insurance claim on it proof of purchase will be required from the insurance company.

Just to clarify from a Samsung end:

 

For standard postal repairs/service on the main device, Support and the Service Centre can determine the warranty from a cross reference between the model number and the serial number, as this info will give them the manufacturing date (or ‘birthday’ as I sometimes call it). However, it’s a good idea to have a valid proof of purchase in the event of a borderline warranty-period case.

 

For stuff like replacement in-box accesories (e.g. charger, headphones) you'd need proof of purchase.

 

Walk-in Support Centres will also need a valid proof of purchase to determine genuine ownership (like in the case of reflashing to unlock the device) or occasionally to determine warranty.

 

For UK/Ireland phones, a valid proof of purchase would need the model number or name; date of purchase; initial price paid; retailer/seller information, including VAT details.

 

Personally speaking, I’d be very wary of buying a smartphone from eBay (especially one without a clear purchase history traced back to a standard retailer/network) – but unsure of how legit/highly rated the seller is in this case.
