Samsung Phones non-physical buttons (capatitator buttons, recent and back buttons)

As a user I want control over the device and I want to be able to personalize it and configure it to my liking.

I do not like when things stop working the way they used.

The two buttons on the sides of the home-button (back and recent buttons, also called capacitator buttons, being part of the screen and only lights up briefly when used) need to work at all times!

To remove them on powersave is understandable, but there is no way to force them back after the phone is fully charged and running at full power again. Setting Powersave to off, restarting into safemode and then restarting the phone again to get out of safemode has returned them at times, but it is more random than I would like it to be.

I want these buttons to work at all times and I want a setting for it so I can force their functionality to be set on or off.

@Darlanio
On the far left there should be a small dot. double tap that, if it is a solid dot then them buttons will stay put, if it is a dot with an empty center then it will keep disappearing. double tap it until it is solid. That should help.

Hi I have the same issue and I don't know where you are when you say there is a button. Could you update the solution please?

Me neither - there is no small dot on the far left side of my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. I am not the one who marked the solution as accepted and I still blame Samsung for not adding or reactivating a setting in the Settings Menu which will allow the users to set the on/off/off when idle status of the buttons themselves. To have to rely on third party apps is not a good solution.

I had to do several restarts (not factory resets, just normal restarts) and got the buttons back. They come and go as they please, but usually when they are turned off I can restart the device 5-10 times and get them back.

I really hope Samsung will address this issue. IT IS NOT SOLVED.

Okay so here`s an update for thoes who might still be having problems.

Go into settings and in to display.

Here you will find an option for navigation bar.

Go into there and at the top there will be a setting labled " show and hide button" make sure this is turned off. This should help.

NB. If you dont have this option then make sure your device software is upto date.

Just to clarify here;

This post is regarding the lighting/usage of the physical buttons on an S7 Edge (and below), NOT the on screen 'buttons' of the S8 and above.

@Darlanio@Gabe9527 - Are you both experiencing this? Do your buttons light up periodically when being used or not at all? Do the buttons themselves work to do what they should, to go back etc.

I am referring to the capacitator buttons, the non physical buttons on each side of the physical Home button on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge mobile phone.

These buttons stop working from time to time and during such malfunction they are never lit.

When they do function they lit up after use and during restart etc as normal.

To "fix" the problem (when they stop working) I have to restart the device several times...

The buttons om my phone has now been working for several days straight, but I will not be surprised when they stop working again.

I'd recommend getting in touch with Samsung Support HERE it if happens again.

As it's happening periodically it is probably not a hardware issue, but you can check that by dialling *#0*# and selecting the 'Sub Key' option. Press each button individually, does the screen change colour when pressing the capacitor buttons?
