Other SmartphonesI am trying to use an old phone which I've not used in a couple of years. It says that I have used over 10 attempts to unlock using the code - in the meantime it offers me my gmail email address to unlock. I do this and it tells me that the password is wrong. I know I have changed my gmail password since using this phone but it is not accepting the old or the new. How can I get past this screen asking for my username and password???

As it's a security protocols on the phone it's meant not to be able to get around in order to protect the phone.
If the route of unlocking / password resets isn't working then I'd suggest visiting your most local Samsung Service Centre location for help.
