S8 - Wrong Number When Texting

Have tried searching for this but can't seem to find anyone with the same issue.

Picked up a new S8 on Vodafone in the UK and ported my number over from EE. This was completed fine. Phone still shows the temp number in the above device section - known issue which I am not worried about. When I call people the phone call shows as coming from my ported number - all fine.

The issue is text messages - these still show as coming from the temp number.

Spent an hour in a Vodafone shop today with two guys trying to figure out what the issue was. After sending lots of texts to different phones it appears that if I send a text to a non-Samsung phone then my ported number shows but if the text is received on a Samsung phone then the temp number shows.

Vodafone seem to think it is a software issue with the S8 and advised their is nothing they can do.

I don't want to have to start explaining to friends with Samsung phones that when they get a text from me the number will be incorrect and they will need to use a different number to reply!!! If I can't find a solution the phone needs to go back.

Just came across this and had the same issue with the s21 ultra, I fixed it by changing the default messaging app to the Google messenger app, sent a text message to one of my friends that was receiving from the temp number, he received it from the correct number this time, then I switched back to the Samsung Messenger app as default and retested all good, temp number no longer sending messages.  Hope this helps as an easier fix.

I've got exactly the same problem. It's to do with the enhanced messaging or rcs but I can't see how the number is updated. On IPhone you can choose which contact details (phone or email) are enabled for Imessage but I can' find the same settins on the s8 either.

Ok so it has to do with your Samsung Profile I think. If you manage to get to "My Profile" screen in the messaging app (where you can set your profile picture and share your profile) and go into the "Profile Sharing" page then right at the bottom it has "registered device" with my old number. Can't see how to change it though 😞

Guessing we need to logout and log back into the Samsung account somehow.

That's the same issue I have. There does not appear to be a way to change the number that appears under registered information. Going to try Samsung support later and see what they suggest.

I managed to remove the Samsung Account (Settings -> Samsung Account -> Remove) and then I've re-added it using a different Email Address but it still shows the same Registered Device number 😕

Lets hope Samsung Support have some ideas - Might just reset the phone back to default state and start again! :smiling-face:

Well spoke to Samsung Support (via live chat) this afternoon.

They can't fix the issue either - advised that they believe my S8 if faulty and to return it to where I purchased it and get a replacement device.

Argued that a replacement device would most likely have the same issue so don't see how this would help. Was put on hold while the adviser checked a few details with a colleague and then informed it might just be a glitch in the software on my S8 and a replacement should fix the issue.

Have decided I am going to pop into my local Vodafone shop tomorrow and ask them to replace the sim (see if that helps first) - if not then will pop into Carphone Warehouse (where I purchased the contract) and get them to replace my phone with a new one.

Got the adviser from Samsung to confirm several times that the phone needs to be replaced as faulty so I can take the chat transcript with me just incase I have issues getting a replacement (not that I think it will help).

Will keep you updated on my progress.

A factory reset fixed it for me.

I came across this thread while hunting for a solution to the same problem.

Having spoken to technical support, we found a solution.

Remove the new sim (with ported number) and put it into an old phone.   Turn on and send a text.  Then,  put new sim back into new phone and turn back on.

This seems to reset the imei number on the sim card.

New phone with ported number is now working properly.
