The Samsung galaxy a52 does it have a function to assign individual ring tones to individual contacts my old Samsung a8 had this feature but so far no luck with this new phone

Yes but like all phones theses days you would have to purchase a song then go into setting and it Will come up either in downloads or purchases

If you go into contacts then click on any person then edit and at the bottom you have the option to assign ringtone but it may say allow storage access first before ringtone appears
