First Post so bear with.

My J6 phone wont switch on, it's stuck on the lock screen with wheel going round. My photos arent backed up and memory was very full. I think an update started and then this (middle of night ). If I do o a factory reset can I restore the photos and transfer to the cloud or sd card? I've read it can be possible but am nervous to factory reset as really want to try everything so I don't lose the photos (they are of my newborn and I'm absolutely devastated)

Any advice gratefully received. I'd pay if I can n get the photos back, I, m desperate.

Thank you

Amy

Yes I've checked and they haven't. Is it possible to try and restore?

@Amy1998: I'm sorry to hear that you're currently unable to access your Galaxy J6. If you have access to a home computer, please try signing in to Google Photos via an internet browser, as you may find an archive of your images stored here: https://www.google.com/photos/about/

Regarding your phone's current state, please install Smart Switch on your home computer via the link below by selecting How Do I Get Smart Switch On My PC or Mac, if possible. Once installed, open Smart Switch, connect your J6 via the official USB cable, tap on More in the top right and select Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization. Run through the on screen prompts, and hopefully this will address any existing issues, and allow you access to the device once more. I hope this helps.

there's a few things to try before taking it to a recovery specialist and pay an arm and a leg for that,

First, make sure to remove the sim card(s) and more importantly, any SD card.

those 2 can easily cause a boot loop

second is to very specifically follow the recovery button guide to the second to ensure you don't miss the window between booting normal and in recovery when you're letting go of the buttons

Press and hold the power button and the volume down button on the side of the Samsung Galaxy J6 until the screen turns off.The phone will automatically reboot. (keep holding until recovery screen appears just in case)

Check if the phone starts in Safe Mode or even makes it that far first

she already mentioned there's no existing backup, but more importantly your suggestion literally puts her files at risk..

you're suggesting something that potentially bypasses the entire problem without knowing the cause.

apologies, I'm aware you're a moderator and I respect your answer, but a soft reset and or recovery reset to Root menu should be the first thing explained before giving her an option that COULD (not saying it WILL) brick her phone entirely.

the cause of a bootloop not solved by a hard reset or recovery mode usually has a reason for it. best to find that if you can by means of elimination

edit to clarify; I'm not trying to come across rude or arrogant, but I've seen the emergency recovery in action and there's no turning back if it goes wrong.

as a moderator has stepped in I'll step out. but I hope you give the boot menu a try first as a simple cache clear can free up enough space if you can make it there to reinitialise your device.

all the best and good luck 😀

Morning. The battery has completely drained and I tired to do the soft reset and it goes back to the same lock screen with the circle going round.

also have you tried starting the phone in recovery mode and if there is an SD card in the phone has it been removed?

Yes, i've got a laptop but not another samsung phone. The phone is currently plugged into my laptop but just charges as my laptop says 'USB device not recognised'.  SD card has also been removed.
