@MurielSmith: It may be the case that the affected numbers have blocked you, or you have blocked them, therefore if you have another means of reaching out to them then I recommend asking them to check their settings with regards to the above. On your phone, open the Contacts app > Select an affected contact > Tap the 3 dots in the bottom right > Unblock Contact (if applicable).
